Job description

Online interview
At SmartBear, we focus on your one priority that never changes: quality. We know delivering quality software over and over is complicated. So our tools are built to streamline your process while seamlessly working with the products you use – and will use. Whether it’s TestComplete, Swagger, Cucumber, ReadyAPI, Zephyr, or one of our other tools, we span from test automation, API lifecycle, collaboration, performance testing, test management, and more.

SmartBear is seeking a Quality Advocate to work on our Cucumber Studio product. Cucumber Studio is a collaboration platform for Behaviour Driven Development. It integrates with the open source Cucumber Open tool which is built by the same team at SmartBear. Cucumber Studio targets product owners, developers and testers.

CucumberStudio
is comprised of several codebases: a main Ruby on Rails application, micro-frontends and API services. The main tech stack includes Ruby, JavaScript/TypeScript, Ruby on Rails, Node.js, React, Ember.js.

The development team is applying Behaviour-Driven Development and Test-Driven Development. Those agile methodologies involve a lot of automated testing which helps us design and build our product, and protect it from future regressions. However, we know there is still room for improving the overall quality of what we deliver.

This is an exciting time for us
We’re growing globally, move fast, and need innovative people who want to keep up. Our new office in Wroclaw gives you the rare opportunity to work for an established company that remains flexible and open to new ideas.

If you think this sounds like a good opportunity, let us know more about you.

Responsibilities:

  • Looking at the current QA process in a critical way, identify gaps and propose concrete actions and change to improve it
  • Contributing to the overall quality of the product through appropriate exploratory testing, feedback to the team and an active involvement in the requirements work
  • Day to day, we would envisage you joining one of our development ensembles, where you will contribute to the code as well as coaching the team in the exploratory testing mindset. You will also be working closely with the product owner, who is responsible for prioritizing and refining requirements.

As a person, we would love it if you are:

  • Curious about other people’s opinions and perspectives, and happy being part of a creative team, bouncing ideas back and forth
  • Keen to work in an inclusive, collaborative environment, giving and receiving feedback openly in whatever format works best for you
  • Compassionate towards yourself, your colleagues and your customer
  • Keen to help continuously improving the way we work together

Qualifications:

  • Experience with Cucumber/Gherkin
  • Commercial experience with JavaScript or Ruby
  • English at least on B2 level
  • Lateral Thinking - examining problems with a creative mindset
  • Critical Thinking - discovering hidden relationships, having objective perspectives
  • Investigation Skills - actively looking for and reproducing bugs, analyzing logs, and identifying problems
  • Storytelling and communication - explain your findings to developers and explain why they matter. Connect with the people who can help you when necessary.
  • User needs research - understanding and communicating needs of other testers who are using our product
  • Usability Evaluation - evaluate how well testers can learn and use Cucumber Studio to achieve their goals
  • Process-oriented - look at how we work as a team, understand the pain points and gaps and suggest concrete solutions
  • Nice to have: TypeScript, Ruby on Rails, Node.js, React, Ember.js

How we work:

  • Remote Pair/Mob/Ensemble programming
  • Kanban - optimizing flow of work by limiting work in progress
  • Continuous Improvement through regular retrospectives
  • Continuous Delivery
  • Behaviour-Driven Development

SmartBear offers:

  • Bonus 5% of annual salary
  • Copyrights deductible costs (creative tax)
  • 75 USD of annual budget for fitness reimbursement
  • Employee referral program – 9 300 PLN gross for recommendation
  • Birthday Benefit – Employees will be given the day off on their birthday and can expense lunch
  • Possibility of remote work during the pandemic
  • Flexible working hours
  • Buddy program
  • Integration events
  • SmartBear Talks
  • Access to Pluralsight
  • Private Medical Care and Multisport
  • … and we are working on more ideas 😊
