Job description

Online interview
About the position
An engineering lead can have overall ownership on the performance of multiple engineering teams. He/she will focus on improving team and individual performance.

Being an engineering lead is a lot like being Captain Kirk of the U.S.S. Enterprise. Kirk isn’t the smartest person on his team (e.g. Spock). He’s also not the most experienced. Sulu, Scotty, and Bones are all more specialized in certain domains than he is. It works the same way for the teams you lead. You’re not the team’s RxJS expert or go-to for complex SQL queries, but it’s not your job or Captain Kirk’s to be the best at everything. It’s your job to tackle challenges by thoughtfully leading collaborative efforts based on everyone’s strengths, describing the roadmap and driving the objectives of your teams.

Key responsibilities as an Engineering lead at Showpad
  • Lead your teams in the delivery of great products. Engineering leads are the first and the last person responsible for on-time delivery of products, with the greatest quality.
  • Facilitates the self-assessment process in the context of building individual growth paths for each of the engineering team members
  • Setting team objectives together with the teams
  • Performance management of the engineering team members
  • Ensures product metrics are in place to measure the success of the teams
  • Point of escalation

Skills and Qualifications we are looking for
  • Leadership experience
The candidate has at least 3 years of experience in leading software engineering teams.

  • Project/process management
The candidate has a proven record of managing multiple critical software projects. You live the process.  Let’s face it, delivering software in teams is a tough job.  You know that you can’t be successful without bringing order to chaos.  Scrum, issue tracking, continuous integration are all second nature to you.

  • Problem Solving/Analysis
The candidate is able to distill the key success criteria for projects and programs by challenging the stakeholders. He/she approaches all negotiations with an open and collaborative mind.

  • Technical Capacity
You have strong computer science fundamentals proven by at least 5 years of holding a developer position. You are an expert in multiple technologies, you have a good grasp of software architecture, you know what’s like to operate SAAS apps in the cloud .  Your expertise will need to overlap with our technology stack, at least partially (Java, Python, AWS and more).
Ideal candidates will have very good Python and Kotlin (Java stack) experience as well as AWS Architect certification.

  • Communication Proficiency
The candidate is an excellent communicator. He/she can effectively work with cross functional teams  and  collaborate with other departments.
