🔷 ABOUT THE TEAM

  • You will be a key member in a highly dedicated and competent cross-functional team. 
  • The product you will be working with offers algorithms that enable our newsrooms to optimize the content offering on their front pages through automation and personalisation, combining data science and the expertise of front editors. 
  • The goal is to deliver front pages that give the users the most important news and that are also highly engaging!

🔷 ABOUT THE ROLE

  • You will be part of a team consisting of 6 Software Engineers, a Data Scientist, a Product Designer, an Engineering Manager and a Product Manager distributed across Poland, Sweden and Norway.
  • The team is responsible for both a frontend used by the editorial staff in Schibsted’s media houses as well as rankers.
  • Based on collected data and through data processing the rankers aim to provide the most optimal order of the content shown on the front pages. 
  • Your primary responsibility will be to develop these rankers together with the team in collaboration with the Data Scientists working in the media houses.
  • The tech stack you will be working with consists mainly of applications for processing data, written in modern Java (17) as well as TypeScript Node.js APIs. 
  • We currently have a Kafka cluster at Aiven but everything else runs on AWS. 
  • The team is responsible for its products end-to-end so you can expect to be involved in everything from designing the architecture, the actual development and implementation, to hosting and improving the infrastructure (availability, reliability, and maintainability).

🔷 ABOUT YOU

  • You have at least 5 years previous experience of working as a developer or software engineer.
  • You are an experienced Java developer but you won’t have problems contributing to our Node.js web APIs as well.
  • You are comfortable and efficient in a fullstack team and in an environment where the team also owns the infrastructure.
  • You are not afraid to take initiative. We expect you to be able to work autonomously.
  • You are a team player. You understand it’s essential to our success that we are transparent and share knowledge and progress with each other.
  • You are able to build and maintain relationships, and influence others. You’re a good communicator that knows how to utilize cross-functional environments

 🔷 ADDITIONALLY ABOUT YOU BUT NOT REQUIRED

  • You are able to write complex SQL queries (we use Snowflake) to analyze vast amounts of data containing millions of users
  • You have experience with Kafka Streams, Apache Flink or similar
  • You have previous cloud (we use AWS) experience
  • You have an interest in Machine Learning
  • You are interested in solving Data Preprocessing challenges.
