Job description

Online interview
We are looking for an experienced:

 Scientific Programmer – Personal Health Research Group

You will help turn scientific vision into tangible solutions for clinicians and biologists. Output of your high-quality code will be published in popular journals, and will propel new healthcare products. You will work with industrial researchers to bring Sano’s technology to hospitals and patients.

You will join the team dedicated to behavioural science and data analytics on population health data and other types of data (e.g. wearables) to identify health risks, trends, inefficiencies, vulnerable populations, patient subgroups and investigate potential population-wide interventions.

As a member of a team at a rapidly developing institute, you will have important impact on how Sano will evolve, and how it will go about meeting its strategic objectives in the long run. If you enjoy creating things, helping organisations and people grow, and contributing to workplace culture while accepting that some elements are in flux, and adaptation to an evolving environment is important, then you are the kind of person we would like to talk to.

We expect a full-time, long-term commitment to ensure continuity within the team (taking software developed by/with a PhD/MSc student, and handing it over to another student);

What are you going to do?

You will work in a collaborative environment, together with other data and software engineers, computational medicine researchers, and medical doctors. Your tasks will include:

  • Implementation of data reduction methods and algorithms, which aim to reduce the data (esp. Its GDPR footprint) based on data semantics, and still make it useful for AI techniques like ML/DL;
  • Co-development of a framework which combines various data sources about one’s health state into a stream useful for semi- or fully-automatic inference (AI etc.);
  • Designing tools and implementing prototypes for the Searchable Knowledge concept, which aims to turn a combination of diversified data sources into a searchable knowledge base which is easy to use by clinicians and patients;
  • Development of end-user tools which help a citizen self-report data about one’s health state, and health-related habits (food, excercise, smoking etc.);
  • Teaching team members how to deliver quality software: modularity, reusability, resilience etc.
  • Contributing to software quality by performing code reviews for colleagues;
  • Contributing to Sano’s high standards of data management with new ideas;
  • Keeping your smile on and being ready to help other Sano colleagues whenever your help is needed.

What do we require?

We require the following:

  • Higher education, preferably MSc, in computer science, or similar domain with a strong curriculum of code development and data handling;
  • At least 3 years of experience in development of software, preferably for various areas of life or business, including medical sciences or human biology (mid-senior);
  • Excellent understanding of core data-related concepts, like: data representation in memory,  serialisation, compression, categorisation, semantics, taxonomy, rule-based inference, and similar;
  • Excellent RDBMS skills: SQL, DB scaling, data model complexity, also technical experience with installation, maintenance of RDBMS servers;
  • Good NoSQL experience with at least one NoSQL technology, preferably MongoDB or similar;
  • TODO which programming languages/environments are preferred?;
  • Experience with TDD methodology;
  • Ability to deliver high quality code demonstrated by past projects;
  • Basic understanding of UX;
  • Fluent command of English (Polish not required).

Our offer

We offer a contract for employment with gross salary from 14000 to 18000 PLN monthly, and a wide range of perks and benefits, including:

  • Private medical plan (planned for 2022);
  • Multisport card (planned for 2022);
  • Flexible working hours;
  • Hybrid work – our office is located at the AGH UST Center of Energy.
