Job description

Do you want to be part of the design and implementation of a fast growing SaaS solution for the US healthcare sector? Do you have the confidence to build systems that need mission critical accuracy? Do you believe in an empowered workforce working at the cutting edge of Agile and Scrum? We do; and we need a new Software Engineer to help us get to the next level.

About us
We believe that patients should be the focus of great healthcare. Freeing up medical professionals to engage with patients rather than administration whilst also speeding up diagnosis is what we do. By connecting medical devices direct to electronic health records via our middleware, we reduce human error and ensure the patient is given accurate results first time. We are leading the way in automating the interface between complex diagnostic machines and the doctors that use their output to make the right clinical decisions.

As a startup based in Edinburgh, and part of the CodeBase technology community, we are a group of young and energetic engineers supporting a product that is in use by over 1,000 doctors every day. We believe strongly in the principles of Agile and seek to empower each other to choose the best path to building a great product that delights clinical staff. Our engineering team has a devops culture, working hand in glove with our marketing and sales function to prioritise its work by business value. We work hard to deliver that value fast, predictably and always to the highest possible quality.

We are entering a new phase of growth as we scale and drive up annual revenues. This will be no mean feat, as we deliver continuous improvements driven by a demanding and highly dynamic market place. To help us get there, we need a high calibre technical mind able to problem solve and code, all the while delivering new and better capabilities to our client base.

Delivered as a SaaS solution hosted on Microsoft Azure, we work with the latest technologies to be a disrupter in healthcare. We’ll give you the chance to work with Azure SQL, DocumentDB, Redis, .Net Framework, ASP.Net MVC, WebAPI and Octopus Deploy to name a few. And we’re always trying out new tech and tools.

What do we need from you?
Ideally 2 years experience, but that’s not the be all and end all. Though to be a software engineer in our team and help us realise the product of our dreams, you will need to:

  • Have experience with .NET and C#
  • Have experience with frontend technologies
  • Have experience using testing frameworks
  • Have experience using source control such as Git/SVN
  • Be familiar with design patterns
  • Be passionate about modern software and infrastructure practices
  • Take an active part in delivering our product on its cloud platform
  • Play an active part in a multi-disciplinary scrum team
  • Participate in product performance analysis
  • Participate in code review and coding standards

Who will you be?
Being a team player goes without saying, but to really add fuel to our fire you need some key traits. You will need to:

  • Communicate confidently at all levels with the whole team
  • Have a collaborative approach to design and architecture
  • Remain open minded embracing new ideas and experimenting with them
  • Be driven by commitment to quality
  • Troubleshoot in both technical and non-technical situations
  • Think critically with an empirical approach
  • Maintain a positive attitude
  • Have the highest standards of professionalism and integrity

What you get.
In return for being that awesome, you will get the fun trappings of the startup culture we foster — ping pong, table football, lunchtime Mario Kart to name but a few. And of course a fridge stocked with beer. We’re a sociable team and regularly have team offsites as well as taking our place as a core part of the CodeBase community.

All this, as well as a competitive salary, pension, potential for equity, career progression and of course flexible working.
