The Specification Engineer designs, authors and maintains Data business database, quality and product specifications. They work cooperatively with Product Management and Data Development cross functional teams to develop specifications that have quantitative, measurable criteria that the product is designed to satisfy. Through detailed technical analysis of data and product content requirements the specifications engineer determines the priority of specifications to implement. Specifications are able to be communicated internally and also with Suppliers & Partners.

You will:
  • Design technical database, product & quality specifications in a way that meets or exceeds internal, supplier and customer needs within operating budget.
  • Author specifications that communicate database, quality and product definitions in an accurate and clear manner.
  • In collaboration with Product Management, determine business impact level for data quality issues and prioritize improvements to specifications and quality checks.
  • Evaluate large datasets to drive specifications development and quality checks using GIS and other database industry software.
  • Cooperatively work with data development, supplier management, and product management teams to continually improve product quality through the specifications and checks process.
  • Communicate externally with Suppliers & Partners on specifications and quality checks to drive improvements in their supplied data.
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) these topics for internal and external audiences by participating in Supplier & Partner meetings, client meetings, publishing and posting papers, community postings, and using other such platforms.

You have:
  • Preferred experience for this position: Technical product management technical writing and/or technical system design/management.
  • Experience and proficiency with industry GIS and data-related software required, including ability to conduct SQL queries.
  • Proven passion for the data quality discipline.
  • Strong analytical and synthesis skills.
  • Work out solutions with an open mindset, be open to feedback and change, and think out of the box.
  • Excellent written communications.
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision.
  • Proven ability to meet established deadlines.
