Job description

The successful candidate is expected to provide outsourced on premises consultancy support and Web platform development services for a major Big Data processing project in the climat analysis and forecasting domain. 

The project is being realized for a major European institution located in the U.K. The project requires a full stack Web Developer to support on the deployment and development of the current platform. The developer will work integrated within the project team, which is in charge of the implementation, operation and maintenance of that platform. 

The consultancy support requires full time availability of the Web Developer for the full duration of the contract 
 (24 months). The tasks of the Consultant shall be carried out mainly at the Institute’s premises located in the south 
 of U.K.

The key consultancy service tasks for the Web Developer include:
  1. Development and implementation of the Data Storage and processing platform;
  2. Technical interaction between different partners working with the Project;
  3. Implementation of underlying cloud services.

Skills and experience:
  1. Experience in Service-Oriented Architectures and large scale distributed systems;
  2. Analytical approach and ability to design effective architecture for large scale data processing and exploitation;
  3. Solid knowledge and experience in both frontend & backend website developments and especially:
  4. Web: HTML, PHP, JavaScript (Angular), CSS;
  5. Content Management System: Drupal;
  6. Back-end technologies around the Python ecosystems (an additional knowledge of Java would be a distinctive advantage);
  7. Database technologies (MySQL, Postgress);
  8. Experience with large scale software projects - source code control (git), deployment (Puppet), continuous integration and documentation;
  9. Candidate must be able to work effectively in English;
  10. University degree or equivalent in IT or similar subject.

Desirable skills and attributes:
  1. Experience handling geospatial data, including cataloguing, discovery, data storage and data retrieval;
  2. Experience with cloud computing architecture, including OpenStack, Swift/S3;
  3. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work with internal and external partners;
  4. Excellent team-working skills, pro-active attitude and ability to work autonomously with a minimum of supervision under high workloads;
  5. Excellent self-organization skills with ability to focus and deliver agreed system components on schedule.
