Job description

Online interview
Our Mission
Our mission is to make running daycare as easy as possible. We do it by creating software that simplifies communication and reduces time spent on paperwork and other administrative tasks. We are giving that time back to educators so they can focus on things that really matter - kids. Take a look at the 1-minute video explainer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zoD0ddLN48

Our Company
We started from scratch in 2018 (literally zero, just two 19 yo guys from Poland) and since then we have grown our company to today's scale. Our app is used every day by over 300 000  parents and 3 000 daycares in Poland, Spain, Germany, and Mexico.
We are located in Spain and Poland, main offices are in Cracow and Barcelona, but we work remotely as well.
With over 70 people on board, we constantly improve our application and services, and expand to new markets.

Your Team
11 people: 3 x Backend Developer, 3 x Full Stack Developer, 2 x FrontEnd Developer, Mobile Developer, Test Engineer, UI/UX Designer

Your Mission
We are looking for someone experienced enough to take over the planning, management, and execution of the entire technical roadmap. We are not looking for a “manager”, who will just do the management job. Your day-to-day responsibilities will also include designing our application architecture, sometimes writing code for the most critical features, managing CI/CD pipelines, and doing code review sessions. You will be reporting directly to the CEO (he has a software engineering background).

Our tech stack
  • Frontend: Vue.JS
  • Mobile: React Native
  • Backend:
    • Main platform in Clojure (but the knowledge of it is not a must)
    • Some services in NodeJS
    • Event sourcing
    • PostgreSQL
    • Docker
    • Digital Ocean, GCP, AWS
    • One platform in PHP (Cake)

Your Responsibilities
  • Leading our engineering team, especially in terms of the backend/infrastructure
  • Planning and executing a roadmap of refactoring, removing technical debt
  • Mentoring and helping our software engineers
  • Making critical technical decisions
  • Designing our backend architecture and infrastructure
  • Establishing and implementing development guidelines among the team
  • Being a person responsible for the backend availability (doesn’t mean that you are DevOps, but you are the person that takes care of that field)
  • Taking ownership of other technical aspects of our platform like security, backups, compliance, etc.

Required Skills & Qualifications
  • At least 3 years experience in a similar position
  • At least 8 years experience in software engineering
  • Strong expertise in scalable architectures
  • KISS principle is your religion. You prefer bulletproof simplicity over fancy solutions with tons of complexity
  • Experience in any JVM language
  • Fluent communication in English (written and spoken)
  • A results-oriented approach
  • Great communication skills (you will be working with other people than developers too)
  • Being super comfortable and quick with tools like Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, etc.
  • Willingness to learn the basics of Clojure

Nice to have but not necessarily
  • Any experience in Clojure
  • Experience in managing GCP/AWS infrastructure
  • Experience in nodeJS (we are thinking of writing new services in that tech)
  • Experience in managing large codebases
  • Deep understanding of DevOps
  • Experience in big rewrites (failures are OK too!)

No worries if you don't meet 100% of our expectations - we are open to everyone willing to learn and grow!

We offer:
  • Base salary: 28-38k PLN net on B2B
  • 26 days of paid vacation and full paid sick leave
  • ESOP (employee stock ownership plan) after 1 year, you get your stock package, so you own a part of a company you work for. It means that you will get your piece from the future IPO/exit :)
  • Hardware/Software of your choice
  • Fully remote or hybrid work (as most developers are located in Cracow, we prefer hybrid)
  • Co-financed: sport card (FitProfit), private healthcare (PZU), English lessons
  • Meeting our users in real life! It’s cool to see how the app you are working on is used by people around you :)
  • Real impact on how the company you work for looks like. We promise the instant implementation of great ideas!
