Senior DevOps Engineer with Kong expertise

Overview:

We are seeking a Senior Platform Engineer with strong expertise in Kong API Gateway and platform engineering to lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of a scalable, secure, and high-performance API integration platform. You will drive architecture, automation, and governance efforts across a federated enterprise environment, while enabling development teams to deliver APIs efficiently and securely.

Key Responsibilities:

• Platform Architecture & Setup: Design and implement best practices for platform environments including Kong Gateway, Kong Connect, and AI Gateway

• Define and enforce platform-wide standards, patterns, and governance models

• Drive infrastructure management using Terraform, AWS, Elastic, and Grafana

• Lead the automation of CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions) for API and proxy deployments across federated teams

• Set up and manage workspaces, configurations, and reusable deployment templates

• Develop policies for API governance, including logging, error handling, versioning, and security

• Conduct performance tuning, capacity planning, and platform observability

• Collaborate with ITRMS teams to ensure compliance, security, and audit readiness

• Manage access controls and permissions across AWS services and platform components

• Support the onboarding and enablement of federated teams and developers

• Provide ongoing advisory and recommendations for improving existing APIs and integrations

• Document architectural decisions, implementation details, and share knowledge across teams

Requirements:

• 5–8+ years of experience in platform engineering, DevOps, or integration architecture

• Proven hands-on experience with the Kong ecosystem (Gateway, Kong Connect, Workspaces)

• Expertise in CI/CD pipeline development using tools such as GitHub Actions

• Solid understanding of API security protocols like OAuth2, mutual TLS, and client ID enforcement

• Strong skills in monitoring and observability using tools like Grafana, Elastic, etc.

• Experience with Terraform and infrastructure as code practices

• Deep familiarity with AWS services, including managing access and deployments

• Understanding of API lifecycle, including standards for documentation, versioning, and scalability

• Experience in platform design with federated or Center of Excellence (C4E) models

• Knowledge of agile methodologies (Scrum or Kanban) and the full SDLC

• Strong communication, mentoring, and stakeholder engagement skills

• Experience in disaster recovery planning and execution is a plus

Nice to Have:

• Experience with AI-driven API gateways or new API lifecycle capabilities

• Exposure to complex enterprise environments and global federated delivery models

• Prior involvement in onboarding and enabling cross-functional developer teams
