Mid-Level HashiCorp Vault Backend Engineer

As a Mid-Level HashiCorp Vault Backend Engineer, you will be working for our client in infrastructure services covering Active Directory, Privileged Access Management (PAM) and Access Governance. You will join a PAM Technology team focused on the HashiCorp Vault service, driving backend infrastructure and application improvement initiatives within an Agile pod. With rapid growth in Vault adoption, you will help deliver self-service, streamlined processes while maintaining high standards for service health and resilience.

Your main responsibilities:

• Drive backend improvement projects for an on-prem HashiCorp Vault environment, prioritizing reliability and continuous service enhancement.

• Provide best-practice expertise for design and build of on-prem Vault instances, ensuring robust and secure implementation.

• Support backend infrastructure and operations including application upgrades, vulnerability remediation, and ongoing configuration improvements.

• Troubleshoot inefficiencies in Vault design and propose improvements that strengthen the service offering.

• Build self-service enablement by creating clear documentation and self-help material to accelerate developer onboarding.

• Design and improve monitoring and alerting to enhance resilience (enterprise-level observability mindset).

• Collaborate with stakeholders and technical teams to influence solution design and keep strategic programmes progressing against scrutiny on milestones.

• Manage ad-hoc out-of-hours work when required, aligned with change management and incident support practices.

You're ideal for this role if you have:

• 3+ years of experience working in a HashiCorp Vault environment (on-prem preferred).

• 3+ years using HashiCorp Terraform with experience building automation.

• Strong release automation skills, including Ansible AAP playbook creation and Jenkins pipeline management.

• Solid backend infrastructure management experience, including support activities such as upgrades, remediation, and configuration improvements.

• Experience troubleshooting complex issues and creating root cause remediation plans, including crisis-call situations.

• Experience designing monitoring and alerting solutions at enterprise level (e.g., Splunk, Grafana, AppDynamics, SCOM).

• Ability to work effectively in an Agile team, managing work in Jira and related engagements.

It is a strong plus if you have: (optional)

• Experience with coding/scripting and GitHub with strong code management best practices.

• Experience working with audit and compliance requests and procedures.

• Experience taking a Scrum Master role or managing Jira boards and task prioritisation.

• Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and demonstrate self-motivation to learn.
