Platform Developer

Role purpose

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Platform Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. As a Platform Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and maintaining our core technology infrastructure. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, system administrators, and DevOps specialists, to develop and optimize our platform for scalability, performance, and reliability. The ideal candidate possesses a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and a passion for creating robust and scalable solutions.

What you’ll do

• Collaborate with software engineers to ensure seamless integration of applications with the platform infrastructure.
• Optimize the platform for scalability, performance, and reliability to meet the needs of our rapidly growing user base.
• Implement and maintain monitoring and alerting systems to proactively identify and resolve performance issues or potential bottlenecks.
• Build and maintain deployment pipelines and automation tools for efficient and consistent platform deployment.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on technical projects, providing guidance and support when needed.

What you’ll need for this role 

Essential requirements include:

• Systems Administration experience with Redhat Enterprise Linux / Centos 5/6/7 managed through a Satellite infrastructure.
• Managed an estate of 1000+ hosts and performed general system administration, networking, backup and restore, monitoring and troubleshooting functions on that estate.
• 1+ Years of experience with scripting languages (bash/Perl/Ruby) and automating tasks with Puppet and Redhat Satellite. Experience with custom RPM generation.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. You will have resolved complex systems issues in your last role and have a solid understanding of the tools needed to do so.
• Excellent Communication (Listening, speaking, transmission of concepts with/without examples, etc).
• DevOps skills (CI/CD ,Ansible ,Terraform ,Jenkins ,Python ,Git etc ..)
• Calm under pressure and work to tight deadlines. You will have brought critical production systems back to life.

Desirable:

• Experience in the IT infrastructure space
• Experience with messaging solutions and products (eg IBM MQ, Active MQ, Rabbit MQ etc)
• Experience supporting enterprise architectures and multi-tiered applications, web architectures and websites.
• Experience with SSSD/Kerberos/Centrify or similar access control tools.
• Familiarity of hardware from vendors such as HP, Dell, Cisco, F5 configurations
• Experience with VMWare virtualization and Netapp storage appliances.
• Experience with Nagios/Openview/Check_MK monitoring products
• Automate operational activities, tasks and repeatable processes.
• Basic understanding on any of the major public cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP)
• Good understanding on the IaaS/PaaS layer
• Developer mindset can take you a long way in this role
