Principal, Specialized Software, AI, Office of the CTO

    About the job

Small teams, operating with context, empowerment, and access to the world’s most promising technology, often create the breakthroughs that define markets.

For the last 8 years, the Office of the CTO (OCTO) in Google Cloud has leveraged this insight, combined with the direct sponsorship of the Cloud CTO and CEO, to help our most strategic customers transform their organizations using small, adaptable teams and methods, while concurrently supporting our internal collaborators as they take these early technology proof points and build them into scaled products and platforms.

As a Principal Engineer within the Office of the CTO in Google Cloud, you will create and reinforce the human pathways between Google Engineering and our most strategic customers and partners, allowing all of us to start from loosely defined, potentially transformative market opportunities and convert them into new, technology-enabled businesses. You will help our customers create their future and help us create the future of Google by continuously tuning our innovation system and products to the needs of the world’s most complex enterprises.

Google Cloud accelerates every organization’s ability to digitally transform its business and industry. We deliver enterprise-grade solutions that leverage Google’s cutting-edge technology, and tools that help developers build more sustainably. Customers in more than 200 countries and territories turn to Google Cloud as their trusted partner to enable growth and solve their most critical business problems.

    Responsibilities:

    • Create and reinforce the human pathways between Google Engineering and our strategic customers and partners, allowing all of us to start from loosely defined, potentially transformative market opportunities and convert into new, technology-enabled businesses.
    • Partner with Engineering and Product teams to identify and test strategic, horizontal opportunities for differentiation across roadmaps.
    • Identify future state-of-cloud products and partner closely with technical teams to chart how we’d bring those future states to life.
    • Help our most strategic customers and partners work through the complexity of adopting cutting edge cloud and AI technologies through expert advice.
    • Inspire others to work through difficult and disruptive endeavors through sharing experiences, successes, failures and the human side of advanced technology development and adoption.

    Minimum qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
    • 15 years of experience in software, hardware, or infrastructure engineering, with a focus on technical innovation and engineering leadership.
    • Experience in building AI products.
    • Experience leading and directing strategic initiatives without authority.
    • Experience coaching executive technical leaders and senior practitioners on cloud and AI adoption, leverage, benefits, and pitfalls.
    • Experience transitioning first-of products to scaled products and platforms, impacting the product and business strategy of an organization.

    Preferred qualifications:

    • Master’s degree or PhD in an AI related field.
    • Experience as a recognized expert in the field of AI, with examples of products, platforms, or experiences built with AI at their core.
    • Experience as an entrepreneur or in a startup within a larger organization.

    Benefits:

    • Health and Wellbeing (Medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents)
    • Financial wellbeing (Competitive compensation, regular bonus and equity refresh opportunities)
    • Flexibility and time off (Paid time off, including vacation, bereavement, jury duty, sick leave, parental leave, disability, and holidays)
    • Family support and care (Fertility and growing family support, parental leave and baby bonding leave)
    • Community and personal development (Educational reimbursement)
    • Googley extras (Inspiring spaces to work, recharge, and collaborate with fellow Googlers)
