Job description

The EIB, the European Union's bank is seeking to recruit for its Corporate Services Directorate - Information Technology (CS IT), Transversal Services Department (TSD), Information & Operations Division (IO), Platform Services Unit (PS) at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a (Senior) Linux Engineer. This is a full time position at grade 5/6.

The term of this contract will be 4 years.

Panel interviews are anticipated for October/ November 2021.

The EIB offers fixed-term contracts of up to a maximum of 6 years, according to business needs, with a possibility to convert to a permanent contract, subject to organisational requirements and individual performance.

Purpose


As a (Senior) Linux Engineer (internally referred to as (Senior) Engineer IT Technology and Infrastructure), you will manage the technology roadmap, design and delivery of projects and daily operations concerning the following scope: Linux Operating Systems Server, Ansible, Satellite, LDAP in order to meet the functional and technology needs of the organisation contributing to the achievement of the EIB objectives.

Operating Network


As a (Senior) Linux Engineer, you will be part of the IT Platform Services Unit within CS-IT Department, responsible for providing senior technical expertise and leadership in support for Linux Operating Systems. You will report to the Head of IT Platform Services Unit.

Accountabilities


  • Lead technology roadmap, design and implementation for Linux Operating Systems Servers, Ansible, Satellite, LDAP in a context of fast automation and digitalisation of EIB activities in order to deliver the best in class and secure Linux Server technologies;
  • Coordinate the run team composed of six to eight Linux Engineers (consultants) for the implementation of projects for Linux Operating Systems Server and interact with the team coordinator, review time sheets, capacity and evaluate the contractor performance
  • Improve robustness, performance, quality, monitoring, log management of the Linux infrastructure and services as well as simplify, industrialize and automate the tasks
  • Develop dashboards for the system performance, team capacity, service level and delivery times
  • Ensure that solutions are designed and implemented in line with internal standards and procedures and that best practice, security recommendations and industry standards are respected
  • Work closely with development, engineering, support, infrastructure, and business operations teams to drive resolution of issues and the design of solutions including taking ownership of incidents and problems until their resolution with proper reporting
  • Provide specialised advice (lead as subject matter expert), in consultation with various IT teams in the context of projects and act as a change owner in order to introduce different approaches within the Bank’s IT solutions
  • Assess impact of releases, features or changes on the IT environment in place and advise relevant stakeholders on a recommended approach
  • Provide information, transfer knowledge and actively promote awareness and a sense of responsibility regarding compliance to relevant IT policies, procedures, and work instructions to be followed by all EIB staff
  • Develop, maintain and apply an in-depth subject matter expertise in Linux Operating Systems Server (RHEL)
  • Keep up to date with industry trends and developments with regard to own specialist field in order to identify IT infrastructure opportunities for innovations based on technical knowledge and best practice

Qualifications


  • University degree preferably in Computer Science, Information Systems
  • At least 5 years of experience in RHEL hands-on expertise, including performance investigation and optimization (File system, CPU, RAM, network)
  • Satellite expertise is mandatory
  • Strong automation skills, preferably with Ansible
  • Strong scripting skills (Bash, Python)
  • Strong Security practice (Secure builds, OpenScap, patching, remediation of vulnerabilities). Configuration of hardened environments. PAM (Privileged Access Management).
  • Ability to setup roles and access accordingly to the least privilege
  • Good understanding of IT network operations (WAN, LAN, TCP/IP, VPN, etc.), F5 load balancer, Single Sign-on and Splunk
  • LDAP practical knowledge (Red Hat Directory Server, OpenLDAP) would be an advantage
  • Experience in running daily operations as well as IT projects: deployment of new solutions, upgrades, updates
  • Experience with Azure DevOps constitutes an advantage
  • Red Hat or other certifications in the above technologies are an asset
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and good command of French(*). Knowledge of another language of the European Union would be an asset
