The opportunity: 

Currently, we have over 240 employees in Poland and are increasing the size of our Engineering team driven by growing business demands and opportunities. To support this goal, we’re looking for an experienced (Sr) Engineering Manager who will manage the Desktop Team responsible for developing Egnyte Desktop applications both on Windows and macOS. These apps are business-critical since they’re the main entry point to our ecosystem from the end-user perspective.

As an (Sr) Engineering Manager, you will be reporting directly to the VP of Engineering. At the same time, you will enjoy full autonomy regarding the team you manage. 

We are looking for a leader who will be working directly with 20 engineers and hand in hand with other members of the Engineering leadership team. A person who makes sure engineers are working on the right things and have room to grow. A manager who will drive a technical debt roadmap aligned with the business one.

Your day-to-day at Egnyte:
Egnyte is a remote-friendly organization, so our employees get to choose where they work from. Our main Polish office is located in Poznań, right next to the scenic Lake Malta. Here’s what you’ll do as an Engineering Manager at Egnyte:

Direct cooperation with the Product team in Poland and US: 
  • Gathering business context
  • Working out the product development plan (prioritizing, combining technical and business part of the agenda)
  • Reacting to customer feedback (patch releases, reprioritization, etc.)
  • Ensuring the requirements are well-defined

Distributed team management
  • Direct cooperation with all local and remote team members (20 people)
  • Setting up team-specific standards, improving productivity (inc. monitoring)
  • Setting up career development plans for all team members
  • Providing business context for items the team needs to deliver
  • Direct involvement in recruitment processes
  • Aligning the team structure to changing business demands
  • Driving innovation by encouraging your team to try new tools and technologies to improve the technology stack and work environment

Developing a high-scale product:
  • Working on tech debt agenda: ensuring the product can scale and the technology is aligned with world-class standards
  • Monitoring product usage, performance, and reliability (feature-level)
  • Improving the quality of the product, adjusting the quality process if needed

Being a member of Egnyte leadership team:
  • An active member of the leadership team who can act on Egnyte global forum of leaders, driving global initiatives, promoting Egnyte culture, improving our standards, influencing the work environment.

About you:

  • Proven experience in leading SW development team (10+ people)
  • Experience in working on a mid/large-scale product
  • Good judgment when to step in and when to step back to give your team space to act
  • Very good understanding of how to navigate teams within a long-term technical strategy aligned with a product roadmap
  • Strong leadership and facilitation skills, as well as the ability to balance engineering and product-related concerns
  • Solid communication skills, including good written and spoken English
  • Ability to manage a distributed team
