Job description

Job description
Since Cake’s inception, we’ve been a Project Delivery Consultancy that has specialised in building highly distributed, reactive systems for clients looking to use the most cutting-edge technology, and we’ve done a good job of it. Over the past 3 months, Cake has been going through its largest transformation yet, and we’re ecstatic to announce that we’re a member of the BAMTECH Media family, who are the leader in delivering direct-to-consumer live and on-demand entertainment at scale. Wanna know what makes this even more interesting? BAMTECH are now a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company, meaning we’ll be working on the OTT streaming platforms that Disney are launching in 2018 and 2019. Pretty impressive right!
As a result, we are looking to hire a number of experienced/ senior DevOps across 2017 and 2018 to join our mature, DevOps culture, here at Cake HQ which is in Stockport, just outside of Manchester.

More about Cake?
Community is a huge part of the culture at Cake, which is why we regularly attend and host local meetups, as well as sponsor the best known Scala and Reactive events like Scala Days, Reactive Summit and Scala World. If you’re ever at one of this events then we’ve also got great coffee and free swag to give away! We’re also a group of active bloggers and publishers, with new posts released weekly, and e-Books from our CEO Guy and CTO Jan ready to download (free of course). We’re also planning on expanding our presence within the DevOps community, as our Manchester Docker meetup already has a strong following, and this year we’ve been to Dockercon which was a great experience for the team.

So what does a DevOps Engineer at Cake Solutions entail?
You will be helping to build and deploy system infrastructure in a cloud-focused environment while providing operational advice to developers when appropriate. Our experienced, cross-functional agile teams enable the delivery of entire solutions not just lines of code.
Joining Cake will help you develop your love for automating things and making developer and ops lives better.  We will help you to develop your technical skills further keeping you up to date with new DevOps technologies and working with clients on a Global scale.
A successful candidate will have a real passion for on-going learning and continuous skills development. The role will involve creating and maintaining Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery pipelines, to ensure automated and repeatable development processes.

What we’d like to see:
  • Agile working practices
  • Amazon Web Services e.g. EC2, S3, Route53 (or an equivalent cloud provider)
  • Experience or understanding of managing infrastructure as code using tools such as CloudFormation or Terraform
  • Unix/Linux OS administration and configuration
  • Python / Ruby / Go / Groovy (good understanding of any one of these languages)
  • Build servers - i.e. Hudson, Jenkins, etc.
  • Virtualization software: Vagrant, Oracle VirtualBox, VMware, Parallels
  • Demonstrable experience with at least one configuration management tool e.g. Puppet / Chef / Ansible
  • Experience in building and deploying one or more of the following types of applications: Scala, Go, .NET, Java, Erlang,
  • NoSql database admin - MongoDB, Apache Cassandra, etc.
  • Apache Mesos/Marathon, DC/OS, Kubernetes, Zookeeper, etc.
  • Kafka
  • Contributions to the technical community, either through blogs, internal workshops, meetups or conferences.

If working for our Stockport office requires emigrating please do not fear. Cake offers visa sponsorship as well as support in the relocation process. We currently house 20 different nationalities within the company and embrace a diverse range of cultures, ethnicities, and backgrounds.

We also provide fantastic benefits, some of which include, Perkbox access, informative lunch and learn sessions, gym membership, attendance at international conferences, a cycle to work scheme, unlimited holiday allowance (paid & unpaid), flexible working and a team football match every Tuesday evening!
