Hi there! We’re Jira Data Center’s “Guardians” team. Our group's mission is to build & maintain enterprise customers' trust by keeping their instances operational. To that end:
We partner directly with Atlassian Support to help resolve some of their most challenging cases. These escalations often come from our biggest Jira customers, companies you’ve probably heard of and whose services you might even use.
As a result, we have our ears to the ground when it comes to the problems that emerge at really large scales. We take that knowledge, and we use it to make our product more resilient, scalable, & supportable. Sometimes this means making direct code contributions; other times, it means sharing information & lessons-learned across the broader Jira development team.
We have our finger on the pulse of day-to-day life for Jira administrators in another way, too: we’re Jira admins ourselves! The Guardians Team maintains the internal dog-fooding instance of Jira DC that’s used by Atlassian’s server teams.
Finally, we also own the release process that puts new versions of Jira into our customers' hands. It’s something we’re always iterating on, in order to make it easier & more reliable.
Does This Sound Like You?
- Resilient. We often work under time pressures and deadlines.
- Holistic. We embrace both production & maintenance as crucial phases of an application’s lifecycle. Development for a piece of software doesn’t stop once we’ve shipped it.
- Empathetic. We build solutions by first coming to understand our customers and their concerns. Whether it’s by directly talking with Jira admins or through aiding our support engineers, we start problem-solving from the bottom up.
- Vocal. We’re a small team, but we work in the context of a larger company. To reach across the organization, we convey our ideas clearly and advocate for initiatives that we believe in.
- Proactive. We always try to keep the ball moving forward, even when circumstances conspire to limit the scope of our actions. To paraphrase a certain Mr. Roosevelt: we endeavor to do what we can, with what we have, where we are.
- Organized. We’re firefighters when there’s smoke, but, wherever possible, we try to prevent the flames before they start. In that spirit, we balance routine operations & support work with deliberate investments in long-term initiatives & improvements.
- Humble. We play to win, but believe in winning as a team.
