Friendly offer

aleno is a fast-paced startup on a mission to become the digital heart of restaurants. Our cutting-edge guest management system helps restaurants digitize their processes to save time, increase their revenue, and offer guests superior experiences.

We are rapidly growing across Europe, and therefore, we are looking for an experienced and outgoing Full Stack Engineer with a strong preference for cloud and microservice architectures.

About the team

You'll join the Core team that is working on maintaining, migrating and rebuilding our Core product’s frontend (and partially backend). This team uses our newest tech stack, for which you will play an important role in its future development.

The Wrocław team works in a hybrid setup, i.e., we meet in the office once a week (rented coworking space). On top of that, we try to have a small gathering every month in Wrocław. The schedule is adjusted to our needs.

What you will be doing

  • Work with product, design, and other engineers to build new product features from start to finish: through ideation, research, implementation, and maintenance. For example, you might build an in-restaurant ordering feature.
  • Leverage your full stack knowledge to help improve performance and reliability and polish existing features.
  • Build and implement a roadmap to migrate the frontend from our old (existing component libraries) to our new stack (in-house design system).
  • Establish best practices development in engineering for the Core Team.

What you bring along

  • Great English language skills.
  • Experience with modern JavaScript (and TypeScript), CSS, and Web APIs.
  • Experience with component-based, declarative UIs (we use React).
  • Experience with building APIs (both internal and external ones, e.g., for 3rd parties).
  • Knowledge of rendering and design systems (as you’ll be building it up with us).
  • Insights into accessibility in web apps.
  • (optional) Knowledge of AWS and its ecosystem.
  • (optional) Knowledge of DevOps culture and tools like GitHub Actions or Terraform.
  • (optional) Experience with GraphQL (we use Apollo Federation heavily).
  • (optional) Experience with Meteor.js (or similar real-time solution).

What we offer

  • Hardware. The home office budget covers a laptop and a headset (if needed).
  • Flexible working hours. Due to the customer support and the daily cycle of our core customer base, 10:00-15:00 CET is required. If you need to finish up earlier, it’s fine — that’s just the default. Other than that, there are no restrictions — just attend the meetings and stay in alignment with the team.
  • Paid time off. All bank holidays are off. On top of that, there are 26 days of paid time off and 5 days of sick leave.
  • Traveling. Company retreats twice a year are expected but not mandatory (once for the whole company and once for the product team). All conferences, local events, and online events (meetups, conferences, etc.) are highly encouraged but not mandatory. Traveling expenses can be covered in case of being a speaker and clearly mentioning aleno (for hiring, marketing, etc.).

About aleno

aleno was founded in 2015 in Zurich by a team that had first-hand experience of how cumbersome running your own restaurant can be. As a hybrid company we employ a diverse team all over the world. Each aleno team member has the freedom to do their best work from wherever they choose, as long as their close to CET timezones. To grow a great company culture we have established these culture principles.

Customer Obsession

Our customers are at the core of everything we do. Everyone in aleno has a deep understanding of them and their problems. Our business success is determined by how good we are at solving these.

Moving fast

Speed is essential for our success. It’s better to move fast and make mistakes than to move slowly and miss opportunities. We have a strong bias to action and constantly push ourselves to satisfy the customer through early and fast delivery of valuable products.

Openness

We are a hybrid company. Therefore transparency and communication are key. We foster an environment where you can openly share your thoughts and challenge the status quo if needed. We all work to ensure everyone has access to all the information they need.

A positive mindset

We think big and see opportunities where others see difficulties. Together, we believe we are able to solve the most complex challenges.

Acting like owners

We see a problem? We solve them. "That's someone else's problem" simply doesn't exist for us.

Diversity

Different people approach problems differently. We need that. aleno is committed to diversity as well as inclusion. We are an equal opportunity employer and committed to the principles of affirmative action. Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender perception or identity, national origin, age, marital status, protected veteran status, or disability status or any other basis protected by federal, state or local law, ordinance or regulation.
