Akamai's security business is one of its fastest growing areas. We are applying cutting edge machine learning techniques to identifying and validating threats. The Carrier business unit works with ISPs worldwide, using the fact that Akamai provides DNS-based services for over 400 million subscribers worldwide to analyze and discover threat data in that subscriber traffic.
Help us make the Internet more secure
You'll play a pivotal role in helping us mitigate some of the most sophisticated security threats on the Internet. You'll help us identify network and application layer attacks and mitigate these threats for our customers around the world. You will be analyzing network-based data and extracting meaningful insight from it to provide better security for millions of subscribers, and you will see your insight practically applied.
As a Data Scientist, you will be responsible for:
- Understanding network and application security products and connecting attack vectors with existing or new detections to achieve mitigation efficiency
- Reviewing customer data and developing algorithms to improve our security products
- Partnering with engineering teams internally to automate attack vector analysis, anomaly detection and risk assessment
- Researching into cyber attacks based on real-time data to produce actionable intelligence on phishing, malware, botnet and other attacks
Do what you love
To be successful in this role you will:
- Display advanced problem solving skills and the ability to develop algorithms and creative solutions using a variety of data types
- Have experience with Python, SQL, Notebooks and data science tools such as Hadoop and Spark
- Be able to analyze data, provide actionable solutions and thought leadership to internal and external stakeholders
- Posses experience with an emphasis on quantitative research methods (Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Machine Learning or related fields)
- Have interest and aptitude in data, metrics, analysis and trends as applied to security with respect to large data sets
- Experience working in Unix/Linux and command line interface scripting
