Principle duties and essential functions


The primary responsibility of the Senior Solution Consultant will be to fulfill onsite support assignments providing ADVA Ensemble expertise to customers in Europe/UKI. The scope of the assignment will be dependent upon customer specific requirements and negotiated with the customer prior to each assignment in in accordance with the project specific statement of work (SOW).  

Other tasks and responsibilities 


Solution Design Consulting:
Support customer pre-production solution design activities to define any of the following:  
  • Management and orchestration strategy, networking, configuration, high availability, etc. 
  • Zero touch design 
  • Security architecture
  • Network service design and VNF selection 
  • Hardware sizing based on above inputs  
Lab Verification support  · 
  • Provide assistance in the Customer’s lab (if applicable) in testing new features and/or solutions in advance of production rollout 
  • VNF performance and functional characterization 
  • Service chain testing 
Solution implementation support  
  • Review and provide input to the configuration guidelines established from the Solution Design phase of the engagement  
  • Provide assistance in the review of configuration data, along with supporting the configuration and provisioning of the solution into production 
  • Support final validation upon successful completion of the configuration 
  • Assist customer in verifying Customer's ADVA products integrate and operate smoothly with equipment from other vendors: Required that the Customer provide a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the other vendor’s products 
Operational support  
  • Provide assistance to Customer operations in system setup, configuration, backup/restore and routine maintenance
  • Assist customer with fault isolation and resolution of network issues 
  • Support software upgrades and updates         
Other 
  • Provide on-the-job-training, hands on, over the shoulder knowledge transfer 
  • Assist in bug tracking and reporting, review of release notes and understanding of Warning's Alerts and Bulletins
  • Technical escalation support to the customer: Attend technical review meetings; Disseminating new information into the customer's technical community 
  • Assist Customer's operations staff with tracking and managing the network equipment inventory
Supplementary  
  • Act as primary technical contact to designated customers for Service Delivery Management, including attendance and participation in Contract, Technical and Operational meetings 
  • Represent voice of customers and ADVA Technical Services (TS) actively providing feedback about products usability and quality to ADVA R&D, Test and Quality departments 
  • Documentation and feedback of product and quality issues to Engineering and Production Other tasks as assigned by manager  

Knowledge, skills and experience required 

 

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field preferred
  • 10 or more years of experience in various fields of engineering
  • Understanding of virtualization technologies including Linux, KVM, OpenStack, Containers (Docker, LXC), etc.
  • Broad knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking architectures and protocols 
  • IEEE / ITU-T / MEF / EFM networking industry standards
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Significant experience with managing direct customer relationships, contract activities, and communicating technical solutions
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Willingness to travel as required to support customer engagements
  • Flexibility on residential location for extended periods of time as required by customer needs
  • Must be able to work at a desk in an office environment
  • Must be able to work in a typical telecommunications lab environment
  • Must be able to lift between 15-20 pounds, and spend extended hours using a keyboard and reading a computer screen
  • Ability to work 40-hour week, expected to be available for core hour meetings, and may be asked on occasion to participate in conference calls with remote locations outside of core hours
