About the role

Join our team to drive retail innovation by developing containerized applications for hundreds of edge devices. You will play a key role in designing microservices and integrating software with ML models. Collaborating closely with DevOps and SREs, you will build robust deployment pipelines and monitoring systems while securing communication across on-premises networks.

Project scope

As a Python Engineer you will be tasked with developing containerised applications and developing software to run machine learning models in the Client store locations that will run on hundreds of edge devices. This includes integration of the inference devices (also running in stores) and the actual edge devices (automated tills). Your responsibility will be to design the architecture of the microservices, implement them, secure the communication between them and other edge services on premises. You need to cooperate with the DevOps/SRE engineers in building a robust release and deployment process around it to ensure all of them are running smoothly. The last part is assisting the SRE engineers in building a robust monitoring and alerting system around deployed solutions.

Challenges

– Developing and maintaining components for microservices running in edge environment

– Designing and implementing scalable, high-quality code and architectures in edge environments.

– Enhancing the monitoring, reliability, and stability of deployed solutions, including the development of automated testing suites and simulation environments for edge devices.

– Collaborating with cross-functional teams enhancing customer experiences through innovative technologies.

– You will provide support to the DevOps engineers if necessary: Streamlining the process of applications onboarding, deployment and patching.

Team

The Engineering Team is distributed in Poland, the United Kingdom and India.

2x Engineers from VirtusLab and SRE Engineers, DevOps, Tech Lead, Product Manager on the Customer side.

What we expect in general:

• Strong experience with writing framework-grade Python code.

• Strong experience with docker, docker-compose and orchestrating deployments at scale.

• Strong experience with Asynchronous Web Frameworks (AIOHTTP, FastAPI).

• Knowledge about Azure.

• Knowledge about CI/CD and a good understanding of the various tools for Integration and Deployments to hundreds of edge devices.

• Ability to discuss requirements and readiness to challenge the status quo.

• Ability to occasionally visit Krakow office.

• Good command of English (B2 / C1).
