OT Security Engineer Graduate
Team description:
The Cybersecurity team is a strategic function within TME’s IT & Digital division, helping protect Toyota’s manufacturing, engineering, and operational environments across Europe. Joining this team means contributing to the security and resilience of critical industrial operations, supporting the secure transformation of plants, facilities, and connected operational assets, and working with colleagues from different disciplines and backgrounds to solve meaningful challenges together. The team’s mission is to safeguard operational continuity, reduce cyber risk, and enable secure innovation across both IT and OT environments.
Role Summary:
We are looking for an OT Security Engineer Graduate who is passionate about technology, eager to learn, and excited to begin a meaningful career in Operational Technology (OT) security. This is an opportunity to build specialist expertise in a field that is becoming increasingly important to the future of manufacturing, resilience, and digital innovation.
In this role, you will work closely with OT engineers, plant teams, and cybersecurity specialists to help protect industrial systems, manufacturing networks, and critical operational environments. You will build hands-on experience in areas such as OT monitoring, risk assessments, secure architecture, vulnerability remediation, and compliance support, while learning from experienced colleagues in a collaborative team environment. For someone with curiosity, determination, and a desire to make a tangible difference, this is a strong opportunity to grow into a confident OT security professional with real impact.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the monitoring of OT environments, including ICS, SCADA, PLCs, and other industrial systems, while building first-hand understanding of how these technologies enable modern manufacturing
Help identify OT risks, vulnerabilities, and remediation actions in operational environments with guidance from experienced team members, contributing to safer and more resilient operations
Assist with OT risk assessments and compliance activities aligned with IEC 62443, NIS2, ISO 27001, and internal Toyota frameworks
Support audit preparation and evidence collection for OT-related controls
Assist in designing secure OT architectures, including segmentation, firewall rules, and remote-access controls
Help maintain OT asset inventories and support integration of OT systems with security monitoring tools
Participate in OT incident triage by gathering logs, documenting observations, and escalating issues appropriately
Learn OT-specific incident response and containment processes under senior engineer guidance, developing practical skills that are critical in high-impact operational environments
Contribute to the creation and maintenance of OT procedures, network maps, playbooks, and governance documentation that support day-to-day operations
Work with plant teams, vendors, IT security teams, and OT system owners to support consistent security practices
Qualifications & Skills:
Qualifications
Experience can be gained through internships, academic projects, lab work, self-directed learning, community involvement, or early professional exposure in OT security, industrial automation, cybersecurity, engineering, or related technical areas. You do not need to have followed one specific path to be a strong candidate—we are equally interested in your potential, motivation, and willingness to learn.
A basic understanding of industrial systems, cybersecurity fundamentals, and the differences between OT and IT environments is helpful, and you will be expected to continue developing these skills on the job.
We welcome candidates from a wide range of backgrounds, including non-traditional career paths, career returners, internships, academic projects, self-directed learning, and transferable technical experience. If you are excited about OT security and meet many of the requirements, we still encourage you to apply. We value potential, curiosity, a growth mindset, and the different perspectives people bring to the team. We are committed to providing an environment where people can learn, grow, and succeed through fair opportunities, support, and collaboration.
Core Technical Skills
Awareness of industrial control systems, SCADA environments, PLCs, and OT communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, or OPC
Understanding of network fundamentals, segmentation, firewalls, and secure remote access in OT contexts
Exposure to security tools or technical labs such as vulnerability scanning, packet analysis, SIEM, IDS/IPS, or endpoint protection is helpful
Interest in scripting or automation using tools such as Python or PowerShell is beneficial, but you can continue building these skills with us
Awareness of frameworks and standards such as IEC 62443, NIS2, or ISO 27001 is helpful but not required
Communication & Collaboration Skills
Ability to explain technical concepts clearly and willingness to learn through collaboration, coaching, and feedback
Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively and respectfully with plant teams, OT engineers, security colleagues, vendors, and other stakeholders from different backgrounds and perspectives
Strong curiosity, constructive approach, and motivation to develop technical and professional skills
Desirable Skills
Exposure to manufacturing environments, industrial automation, or OT lab work through study, internships, or practical projects is beneficial
Awareness of cloud-connected industrial systems or modern manufacturing technologies is an advantage
Certifications (Optional)
Entry-level or foundational certifications such as CompTIA Security+, IEC 62443 Foundation, AZ-900, or equivalent can be an advantage, but they are not required
