UI Designer (Enterprise)
About the role
We’re looking for a passionate, skilled, and ambitious UI Designer to join our team.
As a UI designer, you’ll be shaping experiences that help our wide and diverse colleague and supplier base to work better. You’ll discover new opportunities, crafting intuitive and effortless solutions that improve every stage of a colleague and supplier experience.
We have a wide range of roles as specialisms in Tesco, our remit covers 270 different roles types, across 84 departments and 10 business divisions.
Our current work touches on a wide variety of the employee experience, including;
Lifecycle of a product from development to ranging in stores, and responsible waste of surplus stock
Stock, service, and security operations within our stores
Colleague lifecycle, capability and development
Internal communications and colleague networks
Our colleagues work across a wide range of devices, applications, and systems to do their jobs. We work across broad aspects of our business, including distribution, office, and stores. Our teams are global with many colleagues working in different geographies (United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, India, Central Europe).

You will be responsible for
As a Midweight UI Designer at Tesco, you’ll :
Work on large and small projects, and occasionally, multi platform projects from start to finish, redefining complicated colleague tasks into simple and intuitive solutions
Work across the end-to-end UI process including design discovery, sketching, prototyping and delivering ready for build design files.
Collaborate with different disciplines, working closely with UX designers, researchers, UX writers, engineers, product managers, data analysts, and business stakeholders to explore, build and deliver designs.
Champion human-centred design within your design team and stakeholder group. Help other disciplines understand the value design can bring to our products.
Work within and across Agile squads to design, develop and improve the user experience across our digital products.
Partner with UX researchers to help your team develop empathy for our customers, including those with a disability, and advocate for their needs, validating designs via A/B testing, unmoderated, usability testing and more.
Collaborate with different disciplines including UI designers, researchers, engineers, UX writers, service designers, product managers, data analysts, and business stakeholders to explore, build and deliver designs.
Promote and produce design executions that use inclusive design principles and align with W3C accessibility guidelines.
Work closely with engineering teams to understand feasibility of design ideas and ensure review of design implementation at key stages of the development cycle.
Partner with the analytics team to help inform your work.
Help to facilitate partner (business and user) workshops, such as conceptualisation and participatory design sessions.
In Figma, create UI designs and prototypes using the Digital Design System.
Deliver valuable, high-quality, and consistent work without sacrificing speed by using our Digital Design System and its standardised foundations, components, and patterns.
Collaborate with the Design System team to evolve the Design System based on user needs.
Provide feedback to others in your team to help others improve their impact in their role and on our users.
Work with others in your team to cultivate a positive, supportive, and inclusive team culture.
You will need
Exceptional UI design skills, including interaction design.
A strong portfolio of delivered design work demonstrating your expertise across web, responsive and native apps.
A high level of proficiency with current industry design and collaboration tools such as Figma and Miro.
Experience of designing with accessibility in mind and meeting WCAG 2.1 level AA.
Understanding of the end-to-end iterative design process including how to develop and use design research, journey mapping, wire-framing, prototyping, and user testing to achieve human-centred design solutions.
Proficiency in interaction design for web (desktop and mobile) and native applications.
Experience collaborating closely with multiple disciplines including product and engineering.
Self-motivation, and good organisational and time-management skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to present skills to all levels of seniority and subject area experts within the organisation.
Ability to coach, mentor and set standards for ways of working for more junior team members.
Previous experience in the retail sector or working on enterprise products is an advantage.
