About the role
Overall, the team builds a robust, distributed deployment part of Retail Platform, that supports large-scale, low-bandwidth environments. The team is responsible for orchestrating and managing software rollouts across thousands of retail stores using cloud-native and edge-based solutions. You’ll be developing and maintaining services which:
Prepare deployments across multiple device types
Manage store-specific deployments and device states
Handle on-premises deployments, downloads, and throttling under strict bandwidth constraints
Integrates monitoring and observability
Responsibilities
Whilst specific responsibilities will be dependent upon the changing needs of the Tesco business, the following provides an overview of the role’s key responsibilities and measures:
Design, develop, and maintain microservices (Java-based) for deployment orchestration and store device management
Implement and optimize parts of event-driven architecture
Develop and maintain edge components (Java, Go) for store-level deployment and download management
Integrate CI/CD pipelines and ensure automated testing via rollout pipelines.
Monitor and troubleshoot production systems
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (deployment, infrastructure, and operations) to deliver secure and scalable solutions
Qualifications
Mandatory skills:
Strong Java development skills (Spring Framework)
Basic system design skillset
Knowledge of event-driven systems and event sourcing patterns
Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing
Nice to Have:
Familiarity with SQL databases and distributed systems concepts
Knowledge of Kubernetes and Docker
Experience in monitoring and observability tools
Experience with cloud-native applications
