About the RoleWe're experiencing significant growth and are looking for a Senior/Staff Backend Engineer to support our rapid product growth. This is an in-person role focused on owning and evolving our backend services to create a modern, AI-native developer experience.You willPartner with the Product, AI, and Operations teams to architect new features and complex agentic systems.Build and maintain backend services and APIs that power Kick’s core product to ensure systems are secure, well-tested and high performance.Make clear architectural tradeoffs that balance between platform, product and business goals.Design and implement distributed services to orchestrate data pipelines, automate investigations, and enable incident response at scale.Own operational best practices so engineers can ship multiple times a day with confidence.Set engineering standards for writing, communication and system design influencing how a modern AI-native product is built.We're looking for someone with5-10+ years of experience designing, building and operating production backend systems.Deep backend engineering skills including API design, data modeling and reasoning about distributed systems tradeoffs.Hands on experience running AWS/GCP with a strong understanding of how infrastructure impacts application reliability and performance.Practical experience with CI/CD including testing and deployment strategies.Solid grasp of observability and healthy on-call practices.Bonus if you haveExperience as an engineer at an early-stage or scaling startup.Exposure to modern AI/ML systems.Experience working on product without a product managerOur techTypeScript, React, Node.jsAWS, TerraformPostgresOpenAI, Azure AIGitHub, Slack, Linear, Figma, NotionLocationWroclaw, Poland, 4-5 days per week in personOffice is located next to the Wroclaw main train stationCandidates should be based in Wroclaw or open to relocationWhat we offer$130,000-$190,000 USD salary + competitive equity$100/mo wellness and commute stipendPremium hardware (MacBook Pro/AirPods)Daily in-office lunch and dinnerWe’re building a world-class team of creative thinkers and doers from diverse backgrounds.
