Lead Java Engineer

We offer a hybrid work model in Warsaw’s vibrant Wola district, with 3 days in the office each week. English fluency and eligibility to work in Poland are essential, as is the successful completion of a background check to meet the rigorous standards of the financial domain.

Your responsibilities

1. Working on problem spaces critical to Klarna’s business, with flexibility to change teams as needed

2. Designing, developing, and maintaining backend services using Java and Spring Boot

3. Building scalable and reliable systems deployed in AWS

4. Participating in the full project lifecycle — from concept to deployment and maintenance

5. Collaborating with cross-functional teams to align on integration and architecture

6. Promoting engineering best practices with a focus on innovation and quality

7. Identifying and addressing issues in distributed and financial systems

8. Contributing within small, autonomous teams with fast release cycles

Requirements

1. Minimum 8 years of experience in backend development

2. Proficiency in Java and Spring Boot

3. Experience with PostgreSQL and designing scalable, robust systems

4. Expertise in cloud technologies, especially AWS

5. Knowledge of distributed and financial systems, with a focus on proactive issue prevention

6. Ability to manage projects independently from end to end

7. Leadership experience and a track record of fostering positive engineering cultures

8. Strong communication and collaboration skills across teams and domains

9. Fluency in spoken and written English
