Software Asset Manager
We are seeking an experienced Software Asset Manager (SAM) Consultant responsible for assessing, managing, and optimizing enterprise software licensing landscapes. The consultant will ensure license compliance, cost efficiency, audit readiness, and alignment of Software Asset Management strategy with business objectives.
This is a senior-level role requiring deep licensing expertise, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage vendor relationships and contractual negotiations.
Key Responsibilities
Software Licensing & Compliance
Advanced knowledge of software licensing models, terms, and compliance requirements across major vendors (e.g., Microsoft, SAP, Adobe, VMware, Autodesk, Siemens, Dassault, Figma).
Ensure contractual compliance and mitigate legal and financial risks.
Lead and manage vendor audits from preparation through resolution.
License Optimization & Cost Management
Identify cost-saving opportunities and eliminate unused or underutilized licenses.
Optimize license allocation across on-premise, hybrid, and cloud environments.
Forecast licensing costs and manage software budgets effectively.
SAM Tools & Data Analysis
Advanced proficiency in Software Asset Management tools (e.g., Flexera, Open iT).
Strong ability to collect, analyze, and interpret complex licensing and usage data.
Develop executive-level reporting to support decision-making.
Vendor & Contract Management
Review and interpret software agreements and contracts.
Negotiate licensing agreements, renewals, and commercial terms.
Manage vendor relationships strategically to achieve favorable outcomes.
Strategy, Governance & Process Development
Align SAM initiatives with IT roadmaps and business strategy.
Define and implement SAM policies, governance frameworks, and lifecycle management processes.
Develop structured and scalable SAM operating models.
Cloud & Cross-Platform Expertise
Strong understanding of cloud licensing models (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS).
Experience working in Azure and Google Cloud environments.
Knowledge of hybrid infrastructure licensing implications.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
Guide and mentor junior SAM professionals.
Drive cross-functional optimization initiatives.
Communicate complex licensing scenarios clearly to executives, procurement teams, finance, and technical stakeholders.
Qualifications
SAM certification preferred.
Strong expertise in software licensing and compliance.
Extensive experience managing audits, contracts, and vendor relations.
Hands-on experience with SAM tools (e.g., Flexera, Open iT).
Experience reviewing and negotiating software agreements.
Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
Experience working with license servers.
Excellent reporting, cost-optimization, and financial management capabilities.
Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
