Microsoft Database Administrator
In our Client's team, you will provide support to several projects for a European institution, concerning security and border control activities. The project where the DBA is required deals with assessing the security in the border controls (vulnerability assessment).
Responsibilities:
Data processing
Support data collection of structured and unstructured data from European Union Member States. Upon reception of the data, evaluate and handle them in line with the security operating procedures, review against the acceptance criteria, and provide feedback to the submission party prepared. The administrator shall clean and transform the data package using the provided set of criteria and dictionaries and import the cleaned data package into the system database (currently using the DB stored procedures, SSIS and MS SQL Server as destination). Additionally, he/she shall analyse the imported data along with the existing data sets in the database to produce BI products.
Database and data analysis systems administration
Administer the system DB (MS SQL Server 2016), excluding the database engine and accounts. This covers daily monitoring, control of the database parameters, ensuring appropriate data quality, security, availability, capacity, continuity, and documentation.
Support for systems design
The data stored in this system evolves with Client needs. The database administrator shall facilitate this evolution, advising systems designers on the as-is and to-be, planning for the transition. Additionally, he/she shall implement the required changes from one solution to another without loss of data or changes to data quality or availability to the authorised users and document implemented changes.
Knowledge transfer and consultancy
Maintain up-to-date operational (how to perform operational duties) and technical documentation (how systems logic and data are organised). Once per year, the database administrator shall deliver a knowledge transfer workshop of at least 4 hours, making sure that the attendees can take over the database administrator duties.
Timely response to ad-hoc queries and Production of ad-hoc reports and dashboards
Respond to ad-hoc queries from Frontex members to access the system data in support of their daily duties, using the data processing tools available.
Integration
Plan, manage, and maintain the configuration of the database and data processing tools. Configure additional data sources and data transformations as needed. Generate XML files on demand to facilitate file-based integration.
Requirements:
We are looking for an experienced MS database administrator with:
BSc degree in Computer Science or related field
MCSA in SQL Server 2016 Administration Certification or equivalent
4 years of hands-on experience in the administration of complex MS SQL-based systems, preferably deployed in distributed environments
Knowledge of authentication and authorisation mechanisms, preferably in distributed enterprise-level systems
We will also value:
MSc degree in Computer Science or related field
Experience in monitoring complex IT systems using tools such as SCOM
Hands-on experience on Microsoft BI system administration tools to monitor, manage, and configure system components (e.g., Microsoft SharePoint, SSAS, SSRS, SSIS, and Power BI)
Hands-on experience in the administration of complex IT systems deployed in distributed environments
Expertise in tasks related to administration, management, monitoring, and backup of large, preferably multi-site MS SQL-based databases
Proficient in scripting MS SQL databases, data transformation, and ETL tools
Expert in optimizing, tuning, and planning the capacity of databases
Hands-on Experience in the management of Open Source databases and data manipulation tools, including PostgreSQL and its extensions
