Staff Engineer
Who We Are
We are a remote-first software as a service (SaaS) company, bringing true digital transformation to the global shipping industry. We enhance the way shipping professionals work by creating technology for the maritime industry and bringing it to market.
With over 85% of the world’s trade transported by sea, we have a huge opportunity to transform existing manual, offline and disparate processes into a tech-enabled and data-rich experience enabling better decision-making and fewer costly and time-consuming mistakes. Our premier platform, Sea, is the world’s first digital shipping platform that provides cloud-based applications focused on the pre-fixture and at-fixture space. These connect to create efficiencies and digitise workflows. We are The Intelligent Marketplace for Fixing Freight.

The Role
We are looking for a highly capable Staff Engineer to take responsibility for the Odin team (CP Storage). The Odin team was created to centralise and standardise the storage of CP data across the company, removing duplication, ensuring consistency, and enabling us to deliver on our vision of a seamless, unified marketplace. The Odin team is also fully responsible for a production LLM-based extraction pipeline that requires high accuracy, including maintaining the evaluation framework to assess accuracy.
The successful candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strong leadership, and the ability to guide a team through complex technical challenges. This includes shaping and implementing good practices, driving architectural direction, and leading initiatives that ensure CP data is consistent, secure, and easily consumable by internal and external stakeholders.
In addition to strong technical leadership, this role requires capability in AI-related technical tasks. We are looking for someone who understands how AI works in practice, particularly in the context of data-intensive systems, and knows how to prepare, structure, and clean data so that it is easily consumable by AI models and tools.
Must Have
LLM Systems Engineering: Experience with prompt engineering, token optimization, and managing LLM API interactions at scale
Evaluation Infrastructure: Strong interest in building ML evaluation tools, creating test harnesses, and implementing statistical accuracy measurement
API Design: Solid experience with RESTful APIs, async processing patterns, caching strategies, and versioning
Data Pipeline Architecture: Experience with queue management, retry logic, and building reliable data processing systems
Strongly Preferred
LLM Evaluation Experience: Prior work with assertion-based testing, A/B testing LLM outputs, or building annotation tools
Document Extraction: Experience with structured extraction from unstructured text, schema design for complex nested data
Production ML Systems: Understanding of MLOps practices, model versioning, performance monitoring, and accuracy drift detection
Statistical Methods: Comfort with confidence intervals, inter-annotator agreement metrics, and accuracy measurement
Technical Interests We Value
Passion for building developer tools and evaluation frameworks
Curiosity about improving LLM accuracy through systematic experimentation
Interest in information extraction and document understanding
Enthusiasm for building robust, observable production systems
Experience with or interest in building annotation and quality assurance pipelines
The ideal candidate gets excited about turning experimental LLM capabilities into reliable, measurable production systems and has opinions about how to evaluate and improve model performance systematically.
Responsibilities
Lead and shape what technical good practice looks like across the Odin team and the wider platform.

Requirements
Strong English proficiency (B2+).
Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-moving environment.
Responsibility and ownership of quality and outcomes.
Proactivity and initiative.
Openness and willingness to collaborate.
Core Skills
Mastery of .NET frameworks, ecosystem and tooling.
Mastery of SQL databases (design, performance, tuning, optimisation).
Knowledge of NoSQL technologies (CosmosDB, Redis).
Extensive API design and build experience.
Deep knowledge of security in modern development.
Experience with message queueing systems.
Distributed and scalable application development, microservices, containerisation, orchestration.
Azure Cloud and DevOps expertise.
SaaS system design and delivery.
