Job description

Who We Are

We are a remote-first software as a service (SaaS) company, bringing true digital transformation to the global shipping industry. We enhance the way shipping professionals work by creating technology for the maritime industry and bringing it to market.

With over 85% of the world’s trade transported by sea, we have a huge opportunity to transform existing manual, offline and disparate processes into a tech-enabled and data-rich experience enabling better decision-making and fewer costly and time-consuming mistakes. Our premier platform, Sea, is the world’s first digital shipping platform that provides cloud-based applications focused on the pre-fixture and at-fixture space. These connect to create efficiencies and digitise workflows. We are The Intelligent Marketplace for Fixing Freight. To understand more about us, please visit https://www.sea.live/

The Role

We are looking for a skilled and motivated DevOps Engineer to join our platform engineering team. You will work closely with senior engineers and product teams to support the delivery, automation, and operation of our platforms, helping ensure they align with cloud best practices.

Our technical stack is primarily ADO, Azure cloud, Kubernetes, Terraform, helm charts, Akamai/WAF but also includes some deprecated on-premise tooling (TeamCity, Octopus).

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the delivery of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) that is well governed and supportable

  • Support the development and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps

  • Assist with the configuration and management of Azure resources and Kubernetes environments

  • Assist in provisioning, configuring, and maintaining a wide range of Azure cloud services including compute, networking, identity, and storage components ensuring they are secure, cost-efficient, and aligned with architectural best practices.

  • Managing Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) clusters across multiple environments by implementing automated deployment strategies, optimizing workloads, and maintaining high availability and observability.

  • Help investigate and resolve platform issues and participate in the team on-call rota

  • Contribute to documentation for operating and maintaining the platform

  • Administer the ADO Environment, and other platform tooling portals

  • Playing an active role in incident response activities, including immediate mitigation, and communicating effectively with stakeholders to manage expectations.

  • Assist with implementation of platform security best practices alongside senior engineers

  • Work closely with software engineers and fullstack developers to share knowledge and ensure effective use of DevOps platforms and practices.

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of platform infrastructure, automations and governance using Terraform, Bash, PowerShell

  • Support security monitoring and assist with incident response activities for cloud-native applications.

Requirements

  • Technical Adaptability: While our technical stack and skillset are quite specialized, we place higher value on individuals who show curiosity, passion, and a strong ability to adopt new capabilities, rather than those who simply meet all our existing technical requirements.

  • Flexible and Resilient: We are a developing organisation; team members should be able to adapt and be tenacious when working with others and delivering solutions.

  • Strategic Thinking and Foresight: Able to anticipate future opportunities and challenges, solving immediate technical problems whilst aligning to longer term plans and goals

  • Commitment and proactivity: We need a person who can act and shows initiative. Cares about the development of the platform and product.

  • Openness and willingness to cooperate: Our team members work strongly together, are open to help, and are not afraid to ask questions. We need someone who fits into this kind of supportive and collaborative work style.

Core Skills:

  • Demonstrable experience as a DevOps engineer working on automation tasks and automated testing.

  • A willingness to learn and develop technical breadth and depth

  • Good communication and teamwork skills, including close collaboration with software engineers

  • Strong understanding of infrastructure-as-code principles and excellent working knowledge of scripting infrastructure and automation capabilities using tooling such as Terraform, PowerShell, Azure CLI.

  • Able to design, implement and support CI/CD activities using Azure DevOps

  • Experience with configuration and administration of CDN and WAF technologies such as Akamai or Cloudflare for optimizing and securing web content delivery.

  • Strong communication skills to effectively share technical knowledge and influence decision making, including the ability to mentor and upskill other team members

  • Working knowledge in setup and supporting Kubernetes environments using Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) using tools like HELM including deploying, managing and troubleshooting Kubernetes clusters and container orchestration in production

  • Good understanding of Azure security controls, capabilities, and best practices.

  • Proficiency in understanding, designing and managing network configurations that support scenarios involving Azure, Kubernetes, WAF and CDN

  • Experience in working with or supporting static and dynamic application security testing tooling in the context of CI/CD and secure software delivery

  • Able to methodically diagnose issues through logical reasoning and systematic testing. This includes being able to find the source of a problem quickly by isolating different components of the system

  • Experience with Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SSDLC) in cloud first environment.

What you can expect

Despite our dynamic growth, we managed to maintain a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere of a tightly knit team that can implement complex projects comprehensively and effectively. Each of us knows what is expected from us and has adequate space and freedom of action.
