Job description

Online interview

Saventic Health is a mission-driven health-tech startup based in Warsaw, dedicated to transforming the diagnosis of rare diseases using cutting-edge Artificial

Intelligence. We are developing innovative solutions that have the potential to significantly shorten diagnostic timelines and improve patient outcomes. As a startup, we thrive on innovation, agility, and a collaborative spirit where every team member makes a tangible impact. Due to the sensitive nature of our work and strict regulatory requirements, maintaining trust and data security is paramount, which currently necessitates primarily on-premise infrastructure for core operations.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced engineer to take ownership of our MLOps and DevOps practices. This is a unique opportunity for either an experienced MLOps Engineer or a Senior DevOps Engineer passionate about Machine Learning and eager to specialize further in MLOps within a high-impact environment. You will be instrumental in building, managing, and scaling the infrastructure that powers our AI-driven diagnostic tools. While our core production systems run on-premise for regulatory and trust reasons, you will also manage cloud-based environments for experimentation and potentially oversee a future hybrid cloud strategy.

Your expertise will bridge the gap between data science, software engineering, and operations, ensuring our ML models are deployed, monitored, and iterated upon efficiently and reliably.

Your Impact: This is not just an infrastructure role; you are a critical enabler of our core mission. By building robust and efficient systems, you will directly:

  • Accelerate Diagnosis: Enable faster development, deployment, and iteration of our AI models, ultimately helping patients receive diagnoses sooner.
  • Ensure Reliability & Trust: Maintain the high availability, security, and integrity of our systems, crucial for operating in the regulated medical space.
  • Shape Our Technical Future: Define and implement best practices for MLOps and DevOps, influencing our technology stack and operational strategy as we grow.
  • Drive Innovation: Be encouraged to research and introduce cutting-edge technologies that can enhance our capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Infrastructure Management: Design, build, manage, and monitor our on-premise server infrastructure (Linux environments).
  • Database Administration: Manage the administration, backup, recovery, and necessary performance tuning of our current PostgreSQL databases. (Note: Future migration to other database technologies is anticipated).
  • MLOps Lifecycle: Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines for machine learning models (testing, validation, deployment, monitoring).
  • Automation: Automate infrastructure provisioning (IaC - e.g., Terraform, Ansible), configuration management, and operational tasks.
  • Containerization & Orchestration: Utilize Docker and Kubernetes (or similar) for application and model deployment.
  • Monitoring & Alerting: Implement and maintain robust monitoring, logging, and alerting systems for both infrastructure and ML services.
  • Cloud Management: Manage cloud resources (GCP, Azure) for experimental workloads and potentially future production use.
  • Security: Implement and maintain security best practices across the infrastructure.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Data Scientists, Data Engineers, and Software Developers to understand needs and facilitate workflows.
  • Innovation: Proactively research, propose, and implement new tools and technologies to improve our MLOps and DevOps capabilities.

Who You Are:

  • Experienced: Proven track record as a DevOps Engineer (with a strong desire to move into MLOps) OR as an MLOps Engineer.
  • DevOps Expert: Solid understanding and hands-on experience with core DevOps principles, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and automation.
  • Skilled Scripter: Proficiency in Python scripting is required for automation and integration tasks. Strong Bash scripting skills are also valuable.
  • Database Administrator: Demonstrable hands-on experience administering relational databases, including current responsibility for PostgreSQL (backup, recovery, user management, basic performance monitoring). Deep, specialized expertise in PostgreSQL specifically is a plus, but adaptability to other database systems in the future is key.
  • Infrastructure Savvy: Strong Linux administration skills and experience managing physical or virtualized on-premise servers.
  • Container Champion: Proficient with Docker and container orchestration tools (e.g., Kubernetes).
  • ML Aware: Familiarity with the machine learning lifecycle; direct MLOps experience (MLflow, Kubeflow, etc.) is a significant plus.
  • Cloud Familiarity: Experience working with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Proactive & Self-Motivated: Thrives in a fast-paced startup environment, takes initiative, identifies problems, and drives solutions independently.
  • Collaborative Communicator: Excellent communication skills to work effectively across technical teams.
  • Passionate: Genuine interest in applying technology to solve real-world problems in healthcare.

Nice to haves:

  • Experience in regulated industries (Healthcare, Pharma, Finance).
  • Experience with specific MLOps platforms (MLflow, Kubeflow, Seldon Core, etc.).
  • Experience working with Large Language Models (LLMs), including optimization, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and re-training.
  • Experience with advanced monitoring/observability stacks (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).
  • Experience managing other types of databases (NoSQL, Graph DBs).

What We Offer:

  • A chance to make a significant impact on patient lives through technology.
  • A pivotal role in shaping the MLOps and infrastructure foundation of a growing HealthTech startup.
  • Opportunity for professional growth and specialization in the rapidly evolving field of MLOps.
  • A dynamic, innovative, and collaborative startup culture that values initiative.
  • Competitive salary.
