About the Role:


The Card Engineering squad exists to drive customer experience and business outcomes by streamlining the lifecycle of card payment processing.

Our scope covers the full lifecycle of card payments — Card Registration, Authorization, Capture, and Cancellation — which collectively power over 80% of remittance payment volume. While we do not orchestrate the final fund transfer, we ensure every prerequisite step is securely, reliably, and efficiently executed. You will report directly to the Engineering Manager, based in Poland.


The Cards Team is an API platform is responsible for:

  • Card Registration: Securing and optimizing the experience for capturing, validating, and storing customer card details, ensuring compliance and high conversion globally.

  • Card Payment and Pay-out Flow Enablement: Implementing and maintaining core capabilities for initiating, processing, and managing card payments (authorization, capture, cancellation), integrating external providers, and simplifying complexity for other systems.

  • Card Payments Performance: Delivering end-to-end initiatives to increase card acceptance, including integrating new card networks, acquiring partners, and features to improve success rates.


You Will:

  • Design, develop web and mobile app components and contribute to scalable backend services and APIs

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers and peer teams in US

  • Address technical debt of the existing platform, focusing on refactoring and optimizing legacy code to improve maintainability, performance and scalability.

  • Optimize platform performance for high availability and low-latency, ensuring reliability to support global customer bases.

  • Monitor and troubleshoot production systems, deploying updates and bug fixes to ensure seamless functionality and continuous improvement.

  • Support the cards team through a rotating on-call schedule.

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Mentor younger engineers.


You Have:

  • A BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience

  • 6+ years of experience building features used by millions of users

  • Proficient in one of a general purpose language like TypeScript, Go, Java, Kotlin and willingness to learn second; bonus points for familiarity with PHP

  • Strong understanding of server-side rendering (SSR), hydration, and web frameworks like React or Next.js and server APIs development

  • Understanding of  SQL (Aurora) and NoSQL DBs (DynamoDB)

  • Experience  in CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab, etc.)

  • Understanding of software development practices, system design, software design patterns, and algorithms

  • Leading through example (proven technical leadership and mentorship)


Compensation Details

The starting base salary range for this position is typically zł320,000 – zł360,000 per annum. In Poland, Remitly employees are shareholders in our Company and equity is part of our total compensation plan. Remitly Poland applies increased tax deductible costs (KUP) to remuneration earned by certain qualifying employees (to the extent an employee will be involved in the creation of the software as an "author") for the transfer of copyrights, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Personal Income Tax Act.
