QED (https://qed.ai) is a tech company focused on public health and food security in Sub-Saharan Africa. We build the digital infrastructure and AI used at the intersection of aid and scientific inquiry, including surveillance of HIV and malaria, and nutrient analysis of crops and soils, working at national-scale in several African countries. Our funding comes from multiple philanthropic and governmental organizations, including the Global Fund, Gates Foundation, CDC, and USAID.
We are looking for a mid/senior data scientist to join our team in Warsaw. Desired skills include:
- +3 years of experience in machine learning, preferably in computer vision
- respectable track record in competitive data modeling, and/or notable research achievements
- well-versed with the latest trends with top-performing tools and the ML research community
- strong fluency in both Python and in the main AI-related tools of the trade
- strong skills in logical reasoning and critical thinking, and the confidence to both express it and also receive constructive feedback through regular code review
- non-superficial intuitions about AI, beyond `import blackbox`
- working proficiency (≥C1) in speaking, reading, and typing English (≥45 words per minute)
- willingness and interest in working with people from other cultures
- emotional resilience and social intelligence
- and you have to care about the work that you do
- and you have to be optimistic at least sometimes, although pessimism tends to be useful
Below are additional skills that are a bonus, but are not required:
- working knowledge of statistics and basic probability.
- experience working with enterprise data warehouse software and/or data processing pipelines
- experience working with datasets that cannot fit on a desktop, and systems engineering techniques for overcoming these constraints.
- evidence of leadership and team-building skills
- experience with computer hardware, electronics, or physics
- experience with programming and/or math competitions
- willingness to go on an adventure
- domain knowledge and/or interest in the sustainable development goals, particularly in public health, agriculture, and assisting developing countries
