Senior Backend Developer (Laravel)

About the Project

We are building and scaling a Norwegian price comparison platform operating across Scandinavian markets.

The platform aggregates data from nearly a thousand online stores, indexing millions of products and price offers.

The system is live, profitable, and continuously evolving.

We are a small, distributed product team: fast decisions, real ownership, minimal bureaucracy.

A data-heavy platform with complex business logic:

• Multi-package architecture

• External API integrations

• Web scrapers and data ingestion pipelines

• Full-text search powered by Elasticsearch

• Queues and background jobs

• Frontend built with Next.js 15 connected via GraphQL

Tech Stack

Backend: PHP 8.4, Laravel 12, GraphQL, MySQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, Laravel Horizon

Frontend: Next.js 15, TypeScript, Apollo Client, Redux Toolkit, Tailwind CSS

Infrastructure: Git, Composer, CI/CD, AWS S3

Responsibilities

Backend Development:

• Building new features

• Maintaining and improving existing services

• Refactoring legacy areas when needed

APIs:

• Designing and maintaining GraphQL / REST APIs

• Integrating external systems

Data & Search:

• Optimizing MySQL queries

• Working with Elasticsearch (mappings, queries, performance improvements)

Scrapers:

• Maintaining and building parsers collecting data from online stores

Queues & Background Jobs:

• Working with Redis queues via Laravel Horizon

• Handling feeds, imports, report generation

Architecture & Quality:

• Contributing to technical decisions

• Improving structure and code quality

• Participating in code reviews

Collaboration:

• Working closely with Product Owner

• Collaborating with another Senior Backend Developer

• Working in structured sprints

You are expected to take technical ownership of your solutions — not just execute tickets.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience with PHP and Laravel in production systems

• Experience building complex backend applications (not only CRUD / CMS projects)

• Strong MySQL knowledge (query optimization, indexes, execution plans)

• Solid working knowledge of Elasticsearch (integration, mappings, search queries)

• Experience with Redis (caching, queues)

• Experience designing REST and/or GraphQL APIs

• Comfortable working with Git and pull requests

• Good English (spoken and written)

• Ability to work independently and think in terms of systems and long-term impact

Experience working on data-heavy or performance-sensitive applications is strongly preferred.

Nice to Have

• Experience building web scrapers or data ingestion systems

• Experience with marketplaces or e-commerce platforms

• Experience with background processing systems (Horizon, Supervisor)

• Experience with performance optimization, profiling, monitoring

• Experience with AWS (S3, EC2)
