Backend Engineer (Cloud & Data Infrastructure Focus)
About PeakData
PeakData provides AI-powered market intelligence to optimize drug launch execution and resource allocation for pharmaceutical companies. Our platform delivers actionable insights on healthcare professionals (HCPs) and healthcare organizations (HCOs), empowering commercial leaders with real-time, data-driven decision-making.
Role Overview
We are seeking a mid-level Backend Engineer who is passionate about building scalable, cloud-native systems with a focus on data pipelines, infrastructure, and backend services—this is not a frontend or UI-heavy role. This position blends backend engineering with cloud architecture and infrastructure thinking. You will work alongside data engineers and AI specialists to develop services, APIs, and frameworks that power our platform. If you have strong Python skills, experience in AWS, and love solving technical problems in distributed systems, we want to meet you.
Technical Environment
You’ll be contributing to systems using:
Python: FastAPI, asyncio, pandas, etc.
Data Stores: PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, BigQuery
AWS (Core): Lambda, ECS, S3, Step Functions, CDK
GCP: Supporting specific workflows
Architecture: Event-driven processing and LLM integrations (AWS Bedrock / Vertex AI)
Deployment: Infra-as-code (CDK/Terraform) and containerised services (Docker/ECS)
Key Responsibilities
Backend Systems & Implementation
Collaborate on the design and lead the implementation of scalable backend services and APIs that support platform data flow.
Build and maintain resilient infrastructure components to handle large-scale data and AI-driven workloads.
Support data ingestion, transformation, and LLM integration with performant back-end systems.
Contribute to the modularization and standardization of internal backend tooling.
Work closely with data engineers to bridge platform and data systems effectively.
Infrastructure & Observability
Contribute to the management of infrastructure components through IaC, such as CDK or Terraform.
Support observability efforts, including logging, tracing, and alerting for backend and data systems.
Participate in performance tuning and scalability planning to ensure reliability across critical services.
Qualifications
Required Skills
Experience: 3+ years of experience in backend or infrastructure-focused engineering roles.
Python: Strong backend development skills, including FastAPI, Flask, or asyncio.
Cloud: Solid experience with AWS (familiarity with GCP is a plus).
Data: Comfortable with SQL and working knowledge of NoSQL datastores.
Systems: Understanding of distributed system design and asynchronous processing.
Tooling: Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (CDK/Terraform) and containerisation (Docker/ECS).
Bonus Skills
Exposure to LLM integration, prompt engineering, or AI-supported pipelines.
Experience with event-driven architecture (e.g., SQS).
Familiarity with data workflows or orchestration tools (e.g., Argo).
Previous work in regulated or high-sensitivity data environments.
Personal Attributes
Self-driven: You take ownership of tasks and move projects forward.
Infrastructure-minded: You enjoy making systems robust, scalable, and observable.
Curious: You’re eager to learn about emerging tech like LLMs and AI ops.
Team player: You work well across disciplines and share knowledge openly.
Pragmatic: You solve problems efficiently and avoid over-engineering.
What We Offer
Opportunity to shape the technical foundation of our platform infrastructure.
Work that contributes to faster, more effective healthcare outcomes.
A collaborative, agile environment that values autonomy.
Exposure to both AWS and GCP in real-world deployments.
Hands-on work with LLMs and cutting-edge AI applications.
Competitive compensation and real responsibility from day one.
Flexible B2B compensation (sole proprietorship only) with an hourly rate of 28-32 €/h. Net invoicing, VAT handled on the Swiss side. You can choose to receive payment in EUR or PLN.
