DevOps with Varnish/Fastly

Contract Role: CDN & Infrastructure Migration Engineer / DevOps

Remote, 6 months + extension

We are seeking a highly skilled engineer to lead the decommissioning of our Varnish caching layer in GKE and migrate its logic into our CDN provider, Fastly. This role requires deep expertise in VCL, CDN optimization, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), along with strong experience in managing distributed systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze existing Varnish VCL logic and caching architecture.

• Migrate and optimize caching logic within Fastly VCL.

• Update and maintain Terraform scripts to reflect the new infrastructure.

• Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure seamless CI/CD deployment.

• Validate performance using Prometheus/Grafana dashboards.

• Support decommissioning of Varnish components post-migration.

• Document caching behavior, architecture, and migration changes.

• Migrate ElasticSearch PHP usage across major version upgrades.

• Update and maintain MongoDB, Solr, and ElasticSearch instances.

• Configure and validate automated MongoDB backups.

  
  

Required Qualifications

• Expert-level experience with Fastly and Varnish, including VCL.

• Strong proficiency with GCP and Terraform for infrastructure automation.

• Solid background in Kubernetes (GKE) and containerized app operations.

• Strong understanding of Nginx, PHP/Symfony, and ElasticSearch.

• Experience with Prometheus and Grafana for monitoring and performance validation.

• Demonstrated success in executing zero-downtime infrastructure migrations.
