Within this environment, the Digital Software department is responsible for building and integrating applications that process message flows from around 80,000 machines worldwide, supporting consumers, retailers, service operations, and national deposit systems.

Project Description

As a Backend Developer in the STREAM team, you will help build and enhance mission-critical systems responsible for message processing, data flow, and financial reporting. You will work with modern cloud technologies and contribute to reliable, scalable, and efficient solutions used across multiple internal and external services. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with complex distributed systems and is motivated by high-quality engineering in a cloud-first environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy high-quality applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and implement new functionalities

• Optimize applications for superior performance, scalability, and reliability

• Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code

• Participate in code reviews to support knowledge sharing and maintain high engineering standards

• Stay up to date with industry trends, cloud technologies, and best practices

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field

• 5–7 years of professional experience as a software developer

• Strong proficiency in Java and/or Kotlin

• Experience with system development using agile methodologies

• Familiarity with GCP services such as Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Firebase, or similar solutions is a plus

• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes

• Strong focus on quality and excellent attention to detail

• Flexibility and adaptability when working with complex, evolving systems

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality standards, especially due to the nature of financial reporting

• Comfort with repetitive or routine tasks that are essential for maintaining critical systems

• Beneficial: experience with or interest in automation and AI-driven processes connected to reporting and operational efficiency

• Very good command of English, both written and spoken (C1 level)

• Motivation to contribute to TOMRA’s mission, culture, and long-term product development

• Flexibility to spend time on-site in Asker, Norway, during the initial onboarding period
