About the role

As a Lead Cloud Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping and delivering the technical vision of our platform infrastructure. You’ll provide day-to-day technical leadership, drive automation, and support the design and maintenance of scalable, cloud-native solutions.

Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, vendors, and stakeholders, you'll help define standards, streamline delivery pipelines, and promote best practices across infrastructure, DevOps, and cloud operations. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on enabling secure, reliable, and efficient delivery at scale.

If you're looking for an exciting opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and make a real impact building better software, this is the job for you!

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily technical leadership, guiding teams in architectural decisions and fostering innovation.

  • Participate in grooming and planning the platform backlog, ensuring tasks are well-prioritized and aligned with business goals.

  • Lead efforts to automate technical processes, improving efficiency and reducing manual work.

  • Share knowledge and best practices with teams, Kingfisher IT, and external partners to promote collaboration and learning.

  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of shared IAAS, PAAS, and tooling capabilities, ensuring they meet business needs.

  • Design and deliver standardized pipelines and production workflows to streamline deployments.

  • Create and maintain common standards and practices to ensure consistency and quality across technical work.

  • Work with product owners, engineering squad lead and scrum masters to align the platform vision with the infrastructure strategy.

  • Evaluate and collaborate with vendors and open-source technologies to enhance the platform.

  • Continuously identify and implement automation opportunities to improve processes and speed up delivery.

Skills and Experience

  • Strong background in DevOps practices with hands-on experience in Infrastructure-as-a-Service and Platform-as-a-Service technologies, ensuring streamlined and efficient development and deployment processes.

  • Hands-on experience in designing, deploying, and managing infrastructure on public cloud platforms, with a preference for AWS, and familiarity with GCP and/or Azure

  • Exceptional ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and concisely with stakeholders at all levels, ensuring alignment and understanding.

  • Skilled in shaping and delivering a unified vision for teams, motivating them to work towards common objectives and achieve excellence in their performance.

  • Demonstrates strong problem-solving abilities with a clear thought process, helping teams navigate challenges and make informed decisions.

  • In-depth technical knowledge of key build, release, and environment management tools, including experience with CI/CD tools such as GitLab Runners and Jenkins.

  • Proven experience with Internal Developer Platforms (IDP) / Developer Portals such as Backstage.io or similar solutions.

  • Experience integrating various developer tools and services (e.g., CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, logging, security scanning) into a unified developer portal

  • Ability to champion developer experience (DevEx) and drive adoption of IDP initiatives across engineering teams

  • Experience in defining and implementing "platform as a product" strategies for internal developer tools.

  • Proficiency in frontend programming languages (e.g., JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Node.js) is a strong plus, particularly for customizing and extending internal developer platforms (IDPs/Backstage.io)

  • Excellent command of English (written and spoken)
