We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join our Software Engineering community as part of our core microservices team. You will work closely with other Software Engineers, Test Engineers, Product Architects and Product Owners as part of an Agile Product team to drive our platforms forward, exploring new technologies and approaches to existing challenges. The Shared Services team maintains a set of core microservice APIs. These APIs support and power other applications within the group. For example, the Finance Service powers the finance journey from the display of vehicle finance quotations all the way through to full proposal submission, integrating directly with lenders and third-party aggregators. Services are written in a mixture of Python and Typescript.

Key Responsibilities:

• Designing and developing platform improvements in line with the business vision and technical strategy. 
• Analyse and improve efficiency, scalability and stability of products and services.
• Peer and Code Review work of other team members.
• Contribute to building a culture of support, creativity and learning within your Agile product team and the wider Software Engineering community.
• Adhere to best practice principles for development, including source control, build, testing and deployment.
• Being responsible for information security and data protection, and supporting the business in complying with any legal obligations imposed upon it through positive actions

Technical Competencies:

• Excellent written and verbal English language skills 
• Current working experience of Object-Oriented Language (Typescript, Python)
• Experience working with Serverless / Microservice principles
• Awareness of Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery / Unit Testing / BDD / TDD
• Familiar with REST API principles 
• Knowledge of and/or experience with AWS Services (EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda)
• Knowledge of and/or experience with Serverless (FaaS) computing

Required Experience:

• Ideally a Software Engineer with two or more years’ experience within their respective field.
• Building and managing APIs
• Experience in creation of technical documentation
• Familiar with Agile working practices
• Backend development Python / Typescript

Desired Experience:

• Building microservices using AWS Lambda
• CI / CD pipelines using AWS CodePipline
• Working with mathematical / financial calculations
• Working in a team with front-end and back-end split 
• Working in a cross functional team
