Automated test engineer (mobile, Swift mostly)

Currently a part of Boeing working with digital aviation has been sold to Thoma Bravo, private equity investing company focused on software. Digital aviation solutions, that included Jeppesen and Foreflight companies, are being currently merged. The quality of Jeppesen data fuses with Foreflight software solutions to create a top software company in the digital aviation world.

About the role (more or less on point, rather more!)

As a mobile automated test engineer in Jeppesen Foreflight, you will join the teams working with the mobile EFB solutions. The team is responsible for the commercial aviation segment, and they work on building new features as well as maintaining legacy code and working on the capabilities of the future. Although we are currently focusing on iOS platform – we maintain several cross-platform components. Each functionality is being build from the customer’s input, through data model and back-end modules up to the app layer. Although here we are looking for Swift skillset, C++ knowledge would be an asset. 

Typical tasks and responsibilities include

• Testing of the EFB app

• Maintenance and optimization of existing test suite 

• Continuous partnership with devs at the level of daily development 

• Collaboration with colleagues from other departments

• Proactively working with test engineers to ensure safety in the air

• Full stack mode work if needed

Our solutions are enterprise level apps used by pilots (EFBs) so:

• We operate mostly with commercial aviation clients so there is expected stability and quality relatable to safety in the air 

• We work on major capabilities (1-2yrs to deliver), starting from the customer’s problem, collaborating closely with design and product teams (locally or globally).

• 3 groups of priorities: ongoing stable business commitments driven by app releases, tech debt and arch evolution/tech stack of a future

Who are you? (I mean… you know who you are! But below will help you understand who are we looking for):

• Educational background within the software field, e.g. software engineering, data, computer science

• Experience with developing scalable, enterprise level mobile apps 

• Experience with maintaining legacy code 

• A drive to make things happen 

• Used to working with others globally (ability to collaborate and demo your work to global stakeholders in English, C1 preferred)

• You always try to understand the problems’ you solve and overall “why” context

• If you ever were passionate about an aviation – you got some bonus points straightaway!

• Engineering mindset and experience with automated testing is a must have

• Ability to use gen-ai tools in secure and self-aware, meaningful way 

• Ability to take what’s best from models and methodologies and merge into tailored solutions (context: we have just dropped SAFe, ceremonies and roles weren’t really working out, but we still need an ability to plan our work ahead as we contribute to several different roadmaps) 

• Nice to have:  security, e2e, and performance testing
