Job description

At Jacobs, we support critical clients across healthcare, life sciences, and medical societies by building modern data platforms that enable better insights, operational efficiency, and data driven decision making. For our U.S. Medical Societies portfolio, we process and manage large volumes of sensitive healthcare related data, including patient, clinician, and visit information, delivered on a recurring and time critical basis.

We are seeking a Data Architect to lead the design, optimization, and ongoing evolution of our data ingestion and processing platforms built on the Microsoft / Azure data ecosystem. This role combines hands on technical leadership, architectural responsibility, and technical team leadership, working closely with U.S. based stakeholders while leading delivery from our Poland based engineering teams.

You will play a key role in shaping data architecture, ensuring reliability of weekly ingestion pipelines, resolving complex data issues, and guiding engineers through best practices in SQL, Python, and Azure data technologies. Given the time sensitive nature of the data loads, this role also requires ownership of operational stability, including support during weekend pipeline runs when necessary. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior practitioner who enjoys solving complex data problems, mentoring engineers, and acting as the technical authority for data platforms in a regulated healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership & Architecture:

  • Own and evolve the end-to-end data architecture for healthcare data ingestion, transformation, and storage using the Microsoft / Azure data stack

  • Design scalable, resilient, and secure data pipelines for complex datasets (patient, clinician, visit, and related reference data)

  • Act as technical authority for data engineering decisions, tooling selection, and design patterns

  • Define data models, schema strategies, and performance optimization approaches for large scale relational datasets

  • Ensure solutions align with data governance, security, and compliance expectations relevant to healthcare data

Data Engineering & Delivery:

  • Lead development and optimization of SQL- and Python-based data pipelines running on Azure

  • Troubleshoot ingestion failures, performance bottlenecks, and data quality issues, including hands on support during critical weekend processing windows

  • Implement robust logging, monitoring, alerting, and data quality checks across pipelines

  • Drive best practices for version control, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for data platforms

  • Collaborate with downstream consumers (analytics, reporting, operational teams) to ensure data usability and reliability

Team Leadership & Collaboration:

  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring for a team of data engineers, providing technical guidance, code reviews, and career development support

  • Work closely with U.S. stakeholders, product owners, and project managers to translate business requirements into executable data solutions

  • Facilitate technical discussions, architectural reviews, and cross team alignment

  • Promote a culture of ownership, quality, and continuous improvement within the team

Here's what you'll need

  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, with significant hands on work in Microsoft / Azure data technologies

  • Proven experience in a senior, lead, or architect role, owning data platform design and guiding other engineers

  • Advanced expertise in SQL (data modeling, query optimization, complex transformations)

  • Strong proficiency in Python, PySpark or Spark for data processing, orchestration, and automation

  • Hands on experience with Azure data services such as:

    • Azure Data Factory / Synapse / SQL Database

    • Azure Data Lake / Blob Storage

    • Supporting monitoring and orchestration tools

  • Deep understanding of data pipeline reliability, operational support, and incident resolution

  • Strong knowledge of the software development lifecycle and data engineering best practices

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non technical stakeholders

Nice to have:

  • Experience working with healthcare or regulated data (HIPAA, PII, sensitive data domains)

  • Working in Agile and DevOps environments

  • Familiarity with data governance, data quality frameworks, and master data concepts

  • Experience working with distributed or offshore teams and U.S. based clients

  • Exposure to reporting, analytics, or downstream data consumption patterns

Working model:

  • Primarily based in Poland, collaborating daily with U.S. teams

  • Occasional weekend support may be required during critical pipeline execution windows

  • Combination of strategic architectural work and hands on technical contribution

We offer:

  • Rewarding employment - full-time employment/b2b contract with a salary that matches your qualifications

  • Hybrid work model - enjoy the flexibility of working mainly from home

  • Flexible hours - start your day anytime between 7:30 and 10:00 AM

  • Comprehensive benefits, including Lux Med medical care, psychological support, life insurance, My Benefit cafeteria system, Multisport card co-financing, and a car/bike park sharing system (only under CoE)

  • Possibility to travel on an occasional basis

  • Co-financed holidays - enjoy "Wczasy pod Gruszą" for a well-deserved break

  • Global projects - engage in exciting international projects (only under CoE)

  • Inclusive networks - join our diverse employee networks like Women's Network, OneWorld, PRISM, Careers Network, Green Team, SpeakUp, Collectively, and more

  • Continuous learning - participate in our Graduate Development Program, Learners’ Community, and self-learning platforms

  • Language courses - enhance your skills with courses in English, German, and Polish
