Kraków - based opportunity with hybrid work model (2 days/week in the office).

As a Senior Scala Engineer, you will be working for our client, a global financial institution that is modernizing its trading technology platform. You will join a cross-functional development team responsible for building a secure, automated over-the-counter (OTC) trading system with a strong emphasis on scalability, performance, and code quality. The project involves developing backend services using Scala, integrating with various internal tools and data sources, and maintaining production-grade software within an Agile and DevSecOps-oriented environment. You'll contribute to delivering new features, improving development workflows, and ensuring production readiness.

Your main responsibilities:

• Developing and maintaining backend services for the OTC trading platform
• Writing unit and integration tests using TDD principles
• Taking end-to-end responsibility for your code from design to deployment
• Participating in Agile ceremonies including standups and planning sessions
• Collaborating with frontend and backend developers across related teams
• Ensuring production-grade quality and performance of deployed applications
• Integrating third-party tools and internal services using secure coding practices
• Monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving issues in production environments
• Contributing to the continuous improvement of development pipelines
• Communicating effectively with the Product Owner and other stakeholders

You're ideal for this role if you have:

• 5+ years of professional experience in Scala development
• Solid experience working in a Linux environment
• Familiarity with functional programming concepts and libraries such as ZIO or Akka
• Experience writing tests using ScalaTest or similar frameworks
• Proficiency in Git and working within Git-based version control workflows
• Knowledge of SQL and experience working with relational databases
• Comfortable working in Agile and DevSecOps settings
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to communicate clearly in English on a daily basis
• A collaborative mindset and willingness to take initiative

It is a strong plus if you have:

• Experience using Slick for database access in Scala
• Exposure to cloud-based platforms such as GCP or AWS
• Familiarity with Kafka, MongoDB, or other NoSQL systems
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and tools like GitHub or Jenkins
• Experience with monitoring tools such as Grafana or InfluxDB
• Background in financial services or trading platforms
• Involvement in building or maintaining microservice architectures
• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker or Kubernetes
• Experience contributing to or maintaining documentation in Confluence or Jira
• Previous work on distributed systems or message-driven architectures
