Senior Data Engineer (SQL & Python)

As a Senior Data Engineer you will be working for our client, a global financial institution modernising its data ecosystem to strengthen decision-making, governance, and analytics capabilities. You will be contributing to the development of scalable data models, pipelines, and standards that support enterprise-wide reporting and operational efficiency. In this role, you will be partnering with cross-functional teams to design robust data solutions, ensure data is treated as a strategic asset, and drive the adoption of best practices across platforms. You will be enabling seamless data flow, improved data quality, and greater transparency for stakeholders across the organisation.

Your main responsibilities:

• Developing and implementing data standards and metadata frameworks

• Designing scalable data models and flow diagrams

• Leading the construction and orchestration of complex data pipelines

• Serving as the data expert for testers, developers, and business users

• Conducting analysis of functional and business requirements

• Performing in-depth analysis to uncover data connections and insights

• Creating and documenting processes to optimise data operations

• Supporting data lineage, protection, and quality activities

• Collaborating with stakeholders to refine data strategies

• Enabling seamless integration of data from multiple sources

You're ideal for this role if you have:

• Proficiency in SQL and Python

• Experience in data modeling and documenting complex structures

• Familiarity with data lineage, protection, quality, retention, and governance

• Proven experience designing and orchestrating data pipelines

• Strong English communication skills

• Ability to perform deep data analysis and identify insights

• Experience working with cloud platforms

• Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions

• Strong understanding of data integration concepts

• Experience collaborating with testers, developers, and business stakeholders

It is a strong plus if you have:

• Understanding of IT infrastructure or business architecture

• Experience in large or matrix organisations

• Familiarity with data governance tools such as Collibra, Erwin, or Dataplex

• Experience with Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform

• Strong technical writing and presentation skills
