Java Tech Lead with SRE/DevOps

As a Senior Java Backend Developer – SRE & DevOps Expertise, you will be working for our client, a leading global financial institution dedicated to modernising its engineering ecosystem and building highly scalable backend platforms. You will lead hands-on Java development, mentor talented engineers, guide architectural decisions, and ensure systems meet rigorous standards of reliability, security, and performance. This is your chance to collaborate with top-tier technical leaders and drive impactful engineering transformations that shape the future of finance.

Your main responsibilities:

• Leading hands-on backend development using modern Java and Spring Boot

• Mentoring engineers and supporting their technical and professional growth

• Collaborating with principal engineers and tech leads to shape system architecture

• Applying engineering best practices such as TDD, clean code, and SOLID principles

• Designing and implementing APIs, data models, and modular system components

• Ensuring CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes are optimized and maintained

• Implementing observability, resilience, and scalability patterns across services

• Driving decision-making through structured frameworks and documenting technical choices

• Removing roadblocks and enabling the team to deliver high-quality outcomes

• Ensuring backend systems meet standards for reliability, performance, and security

You're ideal for this role if you have:

• 5+ years of experience in backend software engineering

• Strong expertise with Java 17/21 and Spring Boot

• Proven track record delivering complex, large-scale backend systems

• Solid understanding of system and application architecture patterns

• Knowledge of TDD, clean code, SOLID, and design patterns

• Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases

• Hands-on experience with CI/CD, containerisation, and cloud-native environments

• Ability to mentor engineers and facilitate collaborative technical decisions

• Excellent communication skills and comfort working with diverse stakeholders

• Results-oriented mindset with experience in improving engineering or DORA metrics

It is a strong plus if you have: (optional)

• Experience with AWS services such as EKS, Lambda, RDS, or DynamoDB

• Knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Jenkins, or Groovy

• Familiarity with secrets management, networking, security, or deployment strategies

• Experience designing modular monoliths or microservices architectures

• Knowledge of SRE concepts such as SLAs, SLOs, SLIs, and root cause analysis
