We're Markets & Securities Services IT Poland, a technology department providing technology services and solutions for the Investment Bank businesses at HSBC. Systems we create enable transactions across multiple asset classes. Our teams work in partnership with the business counterparts to deliver high-throughput systems, from low latency trading applications to large Microservices platforms. We also perform architecture and cloud migrations.

STAR is HSBC’s strategic platform for generating and delivering risk factor definitions, historical market data and scenarios for Value at Risk and Expected Shortfall calculations.  STAR is built using a microservices architecture that combines both real-time and batch processes operating on large volumes of data.  

The STAR development team, which sits within the Global Traded Risk Technology department, is looking for talented software engineers with a strong Java background to join the team and assist with the on-going build out of the platform.

What you’ll do

• Develop and implement solutions based on user stories from the project backlog.
• Actively contribute to architecture design and decision-making processes.
• Ensure scalable and efficient systems through thoughtful architectural input.
• Review and provide feedback on team members' solutions to uphold quality standards.
• Collaborate with the team to align on design and development strategies.

What you need to have to succeed in this role

• Strong proficiency in Java 17 and experience with Spring Boot and core Spring APIs.
• Hands-on experience in designing and implementing REST APIs.
• Knowledge of database technologies, with a preference for Postgres.
• Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and Git.
• Experience in application development using Google Cloud Platform (GCP) technologies.
• Understanding of Agile methodologies and practices.
• Previous experience in a Team Lead or Tech Lead role (preferred).
• Familiarity with advanced tools and technologies like Kubernetes/Docker, Terraform, Kafka, Grafana, Vaadin, and Apache Beam is a plus.
