The Data and Analytics Office was established to transform HSBC into a truly data-driven organization by ensuring that every design decision has a built-in data consideration. DAO provides set of capabilities which require right quality of products as foundation for these services. There are 10+ DAO Products which are established and you as Product Owner will be assigned to one of them.
The Product Owner primarily supports Group Data Strategy. The role will be responsible for the managing the gaining of insight into customer needs in order to direct the Group Data Catalogue product vision of what Technology is to build.
The Product Owner is the Agile team member primarily responsible for maximizing the value delivered by the team by ensuring that the team backlog is aligned with stakeholder needs.
This role serves as the ‘voice of the customer’ and manages the product development process. They gather feature requests, schedule releases, and coordinates sprints. They work closely with cross-functional teams, identify user needs, and ensure the product meets customer needs.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead team scrums to define product vision, roadmap and growth opportunities and communicate with stakeholders throughout the project as well as collaborate with internal and external contacts to analyse needs and align product roadmap to the strategic roadmap goals.
Work closely with Product Managers and business teams to create and maintain product backlog according to the business value or ROI.
Remain up to date on trends and best practices for agile management.
Plan and prioritize product development and product feature backlog.
Develop detailed product feature specifications and ensure they are understood by relevant teams.
Assess value, develop use cases, and prioritize stories, features, and themes to ensure work aligns with the product strategy.
Mitigate roadblocks to achieving sprint/release goals, lead the product-release plans and set expectations for delivery of new functionalities and serve as a product ambassador internally and externally, sharing knowledge and answering questions.
Liase between technology and customers to track and manage backlog of related questions (ie. reference data, architectural design, functionality, etc).
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE WE REQUIRE
3-5+ years of experience as a Product Owner or Product Manager, preferably in data or platform products.
Proven experience delivering enterprise-grade platforms, ideally data catalogues, metadata systems, or data governance tools (e.g., Collibra, DataHub, Informatica, Atlan).
Understanding of data catalogue use cases: data discovery, lineage, data ownership, classification, usage tracking.
Deep familiarity with data governance frameworks, metadata management, and data stewardship principles.
Understanding of metadata ingestion mechanisms (connectors, crawlers, APIs) and integrations with tools.
Strong experience engaging with senior business stakeholders, including data owners, data stewards, and compliance.
Ability to align the data catalogue vision with the group’s data strategy.
Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies, backlogs, roadmaps, and prioritization techniques
