Job description

Some careers shine brighter than others.

If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential. Whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or simply take you in an exciting new direction, HSBC offers opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

Your career opportunity

Join the Global Design Team within International Wealth and Premier Banking (IWPB) at HSBC, where we create best-in-class experiences that make a difference in customers' lives.  We align business strategy with user needs across channels and touchpoints to shape the future experience for affluent customers across the globe.

As a Lead UI designer, you’ll take a strategic role in shaping the visual and interaction direction of our digital products. Sitting within the central UI/Visual design team, you’ll work horizontally across all value streams-not tied to a single product area, but helping elevate UI quality and consistency at a system-wide level.

This is high-impact role for a designer with deep expertise in interface design, interaction design, motion and data visualization. You’ll lead the evolution of our design language, collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve complex UI challenges, and guide other designers by setting standards and driving alignment.

What you’ll do

  • Deliver high-quality interface designs that are clear, user-friendly, and visually aligned with our brand and design system.

  • Evolve the UI direction across our product ecosystem, ensuring clarity, consistency, and a cohesive user experience that reflects modern design standards and user needs.

  • Drive the evolution of our design system and UI language, including visual foundations, interaction patterns, and component behaviour.

  • Design clean, effective, and scalable data visualizations-charts, dashboards, and infographics.

  • Act as a horizontal contributor-supporting designers across value streams with UI expertise, feedback, and guidance.

  • Collaborate with UX, content, research, and engineering teams to shape holistic experiences.

  • Lead, support and mentor other UI and product designers, helping them apply best practices, grow their craft, and align with the overall UI direction.

  • Influence visual direction for product areas by contributing to design strategy, vision-setting, and roadmap alignment.

What you need to have to succeed in this role

  • A portfolio that showcases exceptional UI craft, interaction design, and motion expertise across a variety of product contexts with deep expertise in visual design, including hierarchy, typography, layout, iconography, branding and motion.

  • Strong proficiency with Figma and the broader design system ecosystem.

  • Proven experience creating scalable design patterns and components across global products, with sensitivity to localisation and regulatory requirements.

  • Understanding of accessibility, inclusive design, and responsive design principles.

  • Experience with motion design, micro-interactions, and prototyping is a plus.

  • A portfolio that highlights UI, interaction design, and visual storytelling across varied product contexts.

  • Ability to clearly communicate design rationale, collaborate with stakeholders, and influence cross-functional teams.

  • Experience in leading and mentoring other designers, providing feedback, guidance, and helping elevate team-wide UI standards.

  • Annual performance-based bonus

  • Additional bonuses for recognition awards
