Global Markets Product Control is a division of Global Banking and Markets Finance responsible for the production and independent validation of Global Markets' profit and loss and balance sheet. In this regard, Product Control will ensure, inter alia, that accounting policies are correctly and consistently applied, and that Trading portfolios are appropriately valued. The daily process involves daily & monthly P&L and Balance Sheet reconciliations as well as reporting activities performing Valuation and IPV processes for the London and Paris trading hubs. Ensuring accurate calculation of Fair Value Adjustment and the Independent Price Verification. This includes providing an analysis of the IPV’s and FVA’s. Based on knowledge of trading portfolio, trading activity, market movements (or lack of) and other factors.
This role is a senior role within the Krakow Product Control department predominantly responsible for Equities processes with a global coverage. Locally the role might have leadership responsibilities for staff outside of these areas. The Head of Equities has responsibilities around leading the team, anticipating and addressing training and staff development needs within Krakow Core Product Control, developing a talent pipeline, leading the interaction and connectivity between Valuations and wider Krakow PC, driving process improvements and a pro-active approach to change, managing relationships with key stakeholders locally and internationally. The role would include an element of supervision in order to ensure quality.
What you’ll do
- Supervise the end to end P&L review & analysis and Cancel & Amend process for the businesses under supervision and various trading sub business units within the Global Markets business
Be Responsible and assist in the production of:
- P&L production, analysis and review;
- Cancel and Amends;
- Month-end True ups, Reserves and FVA adjustments;
- Balance Sheet Substantiation and reporting.
- Engagement within Product Control teams to ensure that the valuation conclusions are accurately reflected in the books and that the communication with the business is seamless and consistent.
- Keep up to date with any core Product Control production issues.
- Ensure that the governance and controls of fair value is adhered to.
- Ensure Product Control FIM requirements and other applicable accounting / regulatory standards are met. Liaise with Internal/External audit and regulators where necessary.
- Work to ensure consistency in policies/standards across sites/teams and implement strategies to improve consistency where it is not already in place.
- Identify, communicate and drive resolution of issues; whether people, process or system.
- Manage team leads and senior managers in Equities area with global business partners and work closely with colleagues in the Product Control function, onshore Core PC teams and other support functions.
What you need to have to succeed in this role:
- University graduate in financial or economic subject or university graduate in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or similar.
- Minimum five years prior Product Control professional experience.
- Deep financial product and valuation knowledge.
- Excellent written English and oral communication skills.
- Deep understanding of Financial Markets (products traded and their life cycle, accounting principles and valuation techniques).
- Excellent analytical skills and a proactive approach to problem solving and excellent interpersonal skills
- Ambitious, driven and enthusiastic.
- Team management experience is a must.
