HSBC is the largest bank in Europe and is also one of the largest investment banks in the world. MSS IT provides technology solutions for its Global Banking and Markets business worldwide.
Counterparty Credit Risk (CCR) management is a business critical function within the bank. The CCR IT team provide the technology to enable the Counterparty Credit Risk exposure calculation across thousands of HSBC clients globally every day.
We are part way through a multi-year plan to build the next generation of Counterparty Credit Risk Engines which involves migration to Cloud platforms and replace vendor software by in-house developed analytic library. The new counterparty credit risk engine comprises micro services leveraging the latest open source infrastructure, and runs on Google Cloud Platform and on-premise infrastructures.
Technologies used by the team include Java SE, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Apache Beam, Apache Flink, GCP, Redis, REST APIs, Ansible, Jenkins.
HSBC and Traded Risk are heavily investing in an Agile culture with adoption of DevOps processes, CI/CD pipeline and Cloud Technologies. Traded Risk CCR IT is looking to initiate a brand new development team in Krakow in 2023 as part of a long term strategy to develop and support its platform in Europe.

What you’ll do
- Provide support across the end-to-end delivery and run lifecycle, utilising their skills and expertise to carry out software development, testing and operational support activities with the ability to move between these according to demand
- End-to-end accountability for a product or service, identifying and developing the most appropriate Technology solutions to meet customer needs as part of the Customer Journey
- Liaise with other engineers, architects and business stakeholders, to understand and drive the product or service's direction. Establish a digital environment and automate processes to minimize variation and ensure predictable high quality code and data.
- Create technical test plans and records, including unit and integration tests, within automated test environments to ensure code quality, provide support to DevOps teams working at all stages of a product or service release/change with a strong customer focus and end-to-end journeys, ensuring they have an excellent domain knowledge
- Working with Ops, Dev and Test Engineers to ensure operational issues are identified and addressed at all stages of a product or service release/change
- Ensure service resilience, service sustainability and recovery time objectives are met for all the software solutions delivered, responsible for automating the continuous integration/continuous delivery pipeline within a DevOps Product/Service team driving a culture of continuous improvement
- Lead architectural and technical design decisions for the platform globally, leading small special-purpose teams for innovation and improvement initiatives with some hands-on involvement. Oversee and manage platform tooling and technologies from E2E delivery point of view.
- Lead adoption of DevOps and Agile principles and culture, drive teams to design secure, performant systems with latest technology, work with multiple teams globally and contribute individually, run POCs share knowledge, improve the technological landscape. Implement principles and culture for developers to design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable Java microservices, continually improve quality and velocity for the team.
What you need to have to succeed in this role
- 7+ years of experience in designing, developing, and operating distributed systems written in Java.
- Designing and developing microservices using Java and Spring Boot, practical experience in applying Test Driven Development.
- Self-motivation and willingness to learn new technologies and business domain.
- Experience and Knowledge of Counterparty Credit Risk and financial instruments are advantages.
- Previous experience in leading a team of 5-12 people is a plus.
- Ability to ensure software is developed up to highest standards matching modern software development principles : SOLID, KISS, DRY, YAGNI,
- Good understanding of agile processes and techniques, Solid knowledge of DevOps practices,
- Excellent communication skills, ability to translate functional requirements into technical solutions, should be able to provide innovative solutions to complex business problems.
