Engineering Manager - Logistics AI Agents

What's the role?

We are looking for an experienced Lead Engineer to drive technical excellence on a high-impact team building next-generation agentic AI solutions for the logistics industry. The systems built by this team help plan and optimize deliveries at scale making drivers’ workdays smoother, helping customers receive orders faster and more reliably, reducing operational costs for businesses, and lowering environmental impact through more efficient routing and reduced emissions.

In this role, you will be the technical anchor for intelligent agent systems that leverage HERE location and routing APIs to tackle complex challenges in last-mile and middle-mile logistics.

You will serve as the primary technical leader on a team of 5–8 engineers, partnering closely with Product Management, HERE Location Platform teams, and customer-facing teams to bring AI-powered capabilities from concept to production.

This role is deeply hands-on. In addition to providing architectural leadership and mentoring engineers, you are expected to actively contribute production-quality code and lead by example as a strong individual contributor.

What You'll Do

• Serve as the technical lead for a team of engineers, guiding architecture design and maintaining high engineering standards through hands-on code reviews and technical leadership

• Own architecture decisions across LLM-based systems, agent orchestration, geospatial data processing, and cloud infrastructure, ensuring scalable and reliable solutions

• Design and evolve AI system architectures, including RAG pipelines, tool-using agents, and integrations with HERE APIs and external data systems

• Act as a deeply hands-on contributor writing high-quality production code in Python and/or TypeScript and setting the bar for code quality, maintainability, and reliability

• Rapidly prototype and evaluate new AI approaches to validate ideas and guide production implementation

• Collaborate with product managers, customers, and domain experts to translate logistics workflows and product vision into scalable technical solutions

• Help the team produce realistic technical plans and effort estimates, breaking down complex problems into clear implementation tasks

• Mentor engineers, drive continuous improvement, and partner with the Engineering Manager to ensure strong delivery, unblock issues, and sustain a high-performing team

Who are you?

• 7+ years of software engineering experience with demonstrated technical leadership (formal management experience not required)

• Strong hands-on development skills in Python and/or TypeScript/Node.js, with solid experience building backend systems, APIs, and cloud-native applications

• Experience designing and building LLM-based systems and agent architectures, using frameworks such as LangChain, AutoGen, or similar

• Strong understanding of modern AI application patterns, including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), tool-using agents, and integration of LLM systems with APIs and external data sources

• Proven experience delivering production-grade AI/ML systems, not just prototypes, and familiarity with modern AI-assisted development workflows using coding agents (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Kiro, or similar)

• Strong system design skills, with experience building distributed systems that integrate AI components, data platforms, and cloud services

• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and modern CI/CD practices; familiarity with full-stack development concepts is a plus

• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience working across cross-functional teams in complex engineering environments and mentoring other engineers
