Job description

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

  • 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).

  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.


Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, or a related technical field.

  • Experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.

The Google Compute Engine (GCE) Control Plane Engineering Productivity team core focus is developing tools, frameworks, and release processes that empower the GCE Control Plane to efficiently develop and deliver high-quality software.

Our mission is to enhance the quality and reliability of GCE services, thereby accelerating the deployment of new features for customers. The GCE Control Plane is integral to all Google Compute offerings, representing a critical path for releasing new features to over 400 engineers across more than 15 global teams. We are currently expanding the Engineering Productivity role to scale its support for initiatives, enabling AI compute for Google Cloud customers.

Responsibilities

  • Build cross-functional partnerships, and work closely with developers and product managers to identify productivity, production quality and coverage issues, and provide insight on improving both through scale and tooling.

  • Lead the infrastructure and tooling strategy while balancing a wide variety of projects and engagements.

  • Manage a team to navigate deep technical problem spaces.

  • Build, grow, and retain talent and continually find ways to inspire and challenge the engineering organization.
